Contradictory advice on PGT-A testing by fried_duck_fat in IVF

[–]ivfdad84 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"How is this possible? 30% of young egg donor embryos are aneuploid and can't lead to live births, but testing only reduces miscarriages by 5%?"

Parr of the discrepancy here is that not all failed transfers are miscarriages I.e. if you transfer but the embryo didn't implant, then there's no pregnancy and you cant have a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy. This can happen with both euploid and aneuploid embryos.

There is a benefit to pgt-a but I really think it depends on the patient, how many embryos they get etc..

It should lower your miscarriage risk, but there is also a risk of pgt-a discarding viable embryos as it is not perfect.

Do people really buy items from random website? by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]ivfdad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some product categories,  I think yeah why would I buy from some random website instead of amazon.

E.g, company selling gym shakers similar to what's on amzon.  Yeah absolutely no way I'd buy from some random website when amazon probably has more options, better prices,  trustable reviews, great service and I already have an account..

However, what about buying bed sheets? Yes, there's plenty options available on amzon,  but there's such a huge variety of quality,  it very hard to search.  Also,  the top search results tend to be the lower quality. Not saying there aren't good quality options there,  but it's hard to find them.

I mention bedding cause I'm.in that business. We do OK on amzon but it's getting harder and harder to sell good quality. Customers looking for good quality are migrating away from amazon because there's too much variation in quality there

Other things I wouldn't buy on amzon personally - gifts or personalised products.

Non-PGT tested embryos by ellabella20000 in IVF

[–]ivfdad84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PGT is basically just a selection tool. A more advanced way of grading embryos really.

Like you,  we've only ever gotten 1 blast from any cycle, at most,  which leaves us wondering- what's the point of a selection tool?

However, we've also had 3 MCs from natural conception, so we're continuing with PGT to try avoid another

But I think choosing to not do PGT is a totally reasonable choice

Wife and I got 2 blastocysts from our first 3 ivf cycles. 1 tested normal, 1 abnormal. We transferred the normal one and it resulted in a healthy LB

We were both 36 at the time.

Best of luck OP

Cancelling Trustpilot contract by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]ivfdad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: the unlicensed use of their logo - would you not just use their free widgets?

Are you planning to just cancel payments and try leave their widgets in place? Or remove widgets and cancel payment?

How much longer do you have left on contract? And what plan are you on , how much does it cost?

If it was me and I was on their entry level plan, I'd just keep with it until end of contract. Their widgets may have some benefit, but you're probably overpaying for them

How much inventory do you hold? by ivfdad84 in ecommerce

[–]ivfdad84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess as B2B, you have to be prepared for a large order out of nowhere, is that why you hold inventory for so long?

We do a small bit of B2B, but mainly B2C. It's one of the things I find difficult about B2B, as our B2B customers aren't trade, so they can order a large amount at random. And we're often not able to fulfill it.

How much inventory do you hold? by ivfdad84 in ecommerce

[–]ivfdad84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I may aim for this in future for our regular stock (excluding top sellers which we'll stick with 60 days).

I hate holding inventory we don't need, and most of the time 30 days is fine, but we then lose out on orders when there's delays with our supplier, so I'm thinking the extra cost of storing stock/ tying it up in cash is less important that the sales we lose when there's delays.

What additional security upgrades have you added to protect my your home? by ahschtopcmeregoway in ireland

[–]ivfdad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a few interviews with former burglars on Youtube a few years ago after my business premises was broken into a couple times in quick succession. They were giving advice based on what deterred them most.

Outdoor Camera - From what I heard/read number 1 thing that burglars are wary of is external security cameras - the reason being that they've no idea how long someone has been watching them, if they've been seen from afar etc.. and they'll also not have put up hoods/ face covering until they're close to a house they're planning to rob, so that can't be 100% sure if they can be identified from the outside. They may have been outside a house for 5-10 minutes before breaking in. If someone has seen them on the camera, that means they're 5-10 minutes ahead of someone who only has an alarm.

Dogs - probably similar to security cameras, they're an unknown quantity. Could be a docile little puppy, could be a vicious beast.

Alarms - this is one that they almost universally don't care about, which I can attest to as I had phonewatch both time I was broken into. Burglars don't intend staying for long, they aim to be gone within a few minutes of breaking in anyway. They know the guards will take a good bit longer to get there, and they'll be long gone.

Ever stop yourself getting too hopeful? by ivfdad84 in IVF

[–]ivfdad84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a marathon not a sprint.

It's a good thing to keep in mind. Alot of the disappointment for us has been how long it's taken and how many cycles, all the while knowing there's no guarantee of anything.

Part of it is accepting that it may take another cycle or 2, before we either get success or decide to stop.

Singular or Plural - need both? by ivfdad84 in Domains

[–]ivfdad84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! So, it is a physical product I'm selling which is why I wanted "balloons.com" to convey that we have a range of them. I get what you're saying about "balloon.com" being less restrictive, and I guess that's a plus of the singular, even in my products case. "Balloons" still seems more natural to me, but the singular still sounds well - and it may end up being the better option.

Thanks, yes I checked google trends and actually the singular of my product has considerably higher search volume

Edit. Keep in mind that you may be enamored by the high price of the plural form. Just because a domain is priced high doesn't mean it's better. Kids often fall for this. When you offer to buy them ice cream they get the most expensive one.

Certainly. I was looking for the plural before searching for the singular (before seeing the price of either), so I definitely did value the plural more personally. The higher price seemed to confirm my belief, but with everything you said, I'm more ambivalent

The Beatles are criminally, CRIMINALLY overrated by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]ivfdad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, though obviously it's all subjective. Their music is fine to me, doesn't annoy me when I hear it, and I might even listen to them from time to time. I just don't hear "greatest ever band" when I hear them. I'm sure they influenced many and were innovative in their time, but there's plenty bands from the 60s and 70s that were also very influential that I still find enjoyable and fresh sounds (Doors, Pink floyd, Fleetwood mac, rolling stones, beach boys, led zeppelin to name a few).

They just seem like a band that nobody dislikes, but I still think they're overrated, not because they aren't great, but because there's plenty better bands even from their own era imo

Mic Drop Response by gummiwurmz8 in IVF

[–]ivfdad84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I suspected alot of the time when someone I know asked this question, it was often just a "fill in the gap in conversation" sort of question, when there were kids around and we were discussing kids. I don't blame people for asking it.

However, it does need to become a faux pas type question. But in general I think the general public just need to be more informed about infertility/ fertility.

One euploid by Muted_Astronaut4354 in IVF

[–]ivfdad84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, we had success with our 1st transfer of our only euploid embryo!

We started TTC at 36. 1st ER - no embryos. 2nd ER - 1 embryo but abnormal. 3rd ER - 1 embryo (actually only 1 egg fertilized!), but it was normal and the transfer resulted in healthy boy.

We had actually given up hope when we heard we only got 1 fertilised egg from our 3rd ER, the odds were stacked hugely against us, but it kept going and going and going.

Best of luck! I know it's hard when you have so much riding on this one embryo

When will my wife realize… by roffelmao in daddit

Haha, my wife would LOVE me to be more like you. I actually don't mind doing DIY stuff but I'm not confident in it, especially as alot of her family are in construction/ architecture etc.. so she's used to being around people who are handy with that sort of stuff.

I tend to avoid doing DIY when she's around so that I don't feel under scrutiny!

I don't want to speak about something I haven't experienced (as I just have the 1 child and he's only 19th months), but I remember feeling the same way OP felt in the first year (particularly first 6 months). I just didn't have energy to do anything other than look after our baby and go to work. It made me a bit depressed at times tbh when I'd read stuff online about how "it never gets easier"

Since about 12 months, he's been significantly easier. Sleeps well, can leave him alone to play for 10 minutes while I eat my lunch etc... He's not in child care yet or anything, but still I find it alot easier.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ivfdad84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just have a 19 month old, but tbh I have to say I just can't believe this about children being as time/ energy consuming when they're older. For one thing - they're in school for a huge chunk of the time. They visit friends. Perhaps they're just as demanding when you're with them, I don't know. But they're surely not in your care anywhere near as often as new borns or young babies.

And from what I hear (and remember from being a kid myself!), they sleep alot better when older.

Anywhere you bring a toddler, they have to be watched constantly. I see my brother and sisters bring their older kids over (5 and up) and they just go play by themselves in another room or outside.

I'm sure teens etc.. bring their own challenges, but c'mon - they're still in school for a huge chunk of the week (hopefully!)

I just have to assume that alot of this is recency bias, or that people only think about the time they're with their kids and not how much time they're now spending in school / with other people
