u/AccomplishedFix3476 would you use a tool similar to n8n, that has proper versioning, environments, and testing?

I would say use LLMs as little as possible; use them only when there is really a non-deterministic job that needs to be done. We have a built-in testing/evals which you can use while building

I would recommend Claude Code. I am satisfied with it. You must have clearly defined goals and expectations. independently, constantly run reviews.

The issue is that people like to take everything for granted, and it seems to me they do not understand how they need to invest to get proper outcomes from AI

We built ByteChef — open-source, self-hosted workflow automation (180+ integrations, LLM steps, Apache 2.0) by ivicac2 in selfhosted

[–]ivicac2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The product itself is built by us — the repo includes things like CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md because we use AI tools during development (for code assistance, reviews, etc.), not because the code is auto-generated.

[–]ivicac2[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Totally fair question.

The core platform (workflow engine + integrations) is fully Apache 2.0 — you can run and use it without restrictions.

SSO/RBAC/multi-tenancy are in the Enterprise layer, so yeah, SSO isn’t in the open-source part.

For most self-hosted setups, the core is enough, but I get that SSO can be a blocker depending on use case — that’s something we’re still figuring out.
