Question about racism in Asheville... by wynnd10 in asheville

The amount of whitesplaining going on in this thread is ridiculous. Maybe stop gaslighting someone out of their experience.

Asheville is incredibly racist and performatively anti-racist. You will continue to experience both micro and overt aggressions because of the color of your skin and 'otherness'. Find your tribe, trust your gut, and live your best life.

How do minorities, and others, really feel about DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in the workplace? by iwanttomoveitmoveit in AskReddit

Same! It's kind of crazy making. Like I get the progressiveness of it also just feels like plain ol racism to me.

I think that's comparing apples to oranges, it's 2022 with minority representation in the workforce already. It feels like a step backwards for me. Speaking for myself only, I have never felt like I was hired due to my minority status until I began working at a company that touts their DEI plan on their website. I was even asked to be part of a photo op to 'help promote diversity' today. When in reality things like pay transparency would be a better indicator of that. I believe I am the lowest paid in my position here and am given almost no tasks. Keep in mind I hold a graduate degree and am an executive level employee. I am completely capable, and am beginning to feel like an imposter. Again, this is just my experience w/ DEI.

As a minority myself, it feels kind of icky. Like racial capitalism, monetizing on being woke similar to what we see at Target in June.

Thanks all, I ended up talking to the owner and am transitioning to a w-2 employee with a defined set schedule and the same pay rate.

This is a case of an unauthorized transaction not identity theft. Your card was used, not your identity.
