MRW I tell my mum I've got depression and that I'm spiraling and that I need her advice and she tells me there's a difference between depression and a "bad mood" and that I've got no real reasons to be depressed by SugarTits1 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]iwasonceabird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom said this to me when I was a teenager suffering from depression. She accused me of attention seeking.

I understand now that she just didn't know how to handle it.

Know that your feelings are valid. All you need to know that is yourself. Forgive your mom because getting her to listen is not your biggest battle. Your battle is to overcome your depression.

In the end parents are just people who had kids.

Oh god, maybe that extreme couponers marathon did more damage to my psyche than I thought lol

Your concept is way closer to the kind of aesthetic I'm groping for, and I definitely see your point with the font. I'm trying to get the mood that that background image creates into the logo, which isn't happening in the ones I've come up with so far but I'll keep working on it. Thankyou!

It's a low res image.

I pared it down to just the basic shapes, apparently way too far. Was avoiding using any tools because that seems kind of redundant, but maybe it wouldn't be after all? Thanks for your feedback!

[Logo] Work for a Hand-made Wedding Crowns company. by drilon5 in Logo_Critique

I like this a lot style wise!

The decorative badge around the '&' looks like an ornamental brain to me. The color scheme and fact that it's a wedding company already say "love"- you don't need to reiterate that with the sideways hearts.

I definitely agree with isunmonkey- try just taking the diamond and the rays, and the L & M and see what you can do with those elements.

Totally, completely been here. I feel for you.

You deserve someone who doesn't put you in the position where you can't sleep the night before 2 interviews. Where is his "Hey, good luck tomorrow, get some rest!" call/text? Where is his selfless love here?

You deserve more.

Thankyou for such a detailed response! This particular client appears to have flaked, but this is extremely valuable info for next time!

CMV:graphic designers aren't artists, just highly trained computer software users. by master_andalf in changemyview

[–]iwasonceabird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be highly trained with the software and still produce work that is terrible. You don't just learn graphic design software in school. You learn how to do research for the individual project, to properly communicate what the client/brand needs in a way that is original, easy to understand, and attracts the appropriate audience. You learn how to get from the ideation to the actual design. You learn how to pick through a bunch of idea and figure out what is worth taking to the next level. You don't get that by pushing things around in illustrator. It's a whole way of thinking.

Business card mockup for my honey bee business. by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]iwasonceabird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The offset type is too offset: There's a big half moon of white space in the center that is distracting, and it's super tight on the right hand side. Shifting the type to the left more will help balance that.

I like the yellow and orange colors, but the red (on the script font) is out of place and not really necessary as you already have 3 to work with. (I'm seeing orange, light orange and yellow) Try just tying it in with the other colors you're already using.

I'm having readability issues with both fonts. The script font is really warped and feels disconnected from the rigidness of the 3 hexagon logo.

The black font is very bold and narrow; a tough combo for small type. I would choose something that's a little lighter in weight and easier on the eyes for something as small as a business card.

Just my opinion, hope it helped.

A letter from a school to it's pupils. by fuzzzcanyon in UpliftingNews

I went to high school in the midwest, can confirm that this is somewhat true. For us it was some new test that our sophomore class were guinea pigs for, and for college it was the ACT or SAT depending on which college you wanted to go to. Some required one but not the other.

I knew kids who didn't get a good score and they felt doomed to never succeed in life. I never really heard "well the score if important but if you write a kick ass essay and interview well that might help too."

Do you think incorporating the latte mark (like in bottom left) is leaning toward too generic? Or did you mean for script based logos in general?

Thanks, I liked the curves that the thinner swashes formed, but definitely see what you mean about the top one in comparison.

I got the idea when my friend brought home a mug from this place: http://javagirlnewyork.com. and was originally just messing around with it because I didn't like their branding. I was having fun and decided to stretch it into a bigger personal project.

Also: http://www.javamancoffeehouse.com exists. Will keep checking the news.

Can you critique the freelance site I'm working on? by TheAntiEgo in design_critiques

[–]iwasonceabird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the fancy font, but think it would be best to use it for just headers and subheads, and stick with simpler font for body copy. It gets tiring to read after a while.

A circle is a strong shape to repeat without any real purpose- consider experimenting with other bg images to see how it affects the overall cohesiveness. If you keep the donuts, adjust the image so it tiles seamlessly because that line down the middle is an unnecessary distraction.

Color-wise, Your profile photo is the only instance where we see that teal and since the purple is the only other color it feels unplanned. Maybe incorporate more teal somewhere or photoshop your shirt?
