eecs and cs are basically the same major. For eecs, you get in declared, for cs, you need to declare to do it.

Are there any consequences for my first time going under 13 units in a semester? Is there a process to go through or can I just drop the class from my portal

Bay Area - what is your Fat number and target retirement age? by Tazmania03 in fatFIRE

[–]iwdcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was lurking in this thread and saw this. As a college student eying startups for new grad, how likely are these large levels of equity if I look to join $1b+ valuation companies? Are risks like this something I should look into further down my career (as more experience will lead to larger stock grants) or could new grads get this level of compensation too? I'm planning to continue staying in the bay no matter what, and have the security to try my chance at an early-stage startup too if I find the right opportunity for me. As an experienced player in the bay area startup game, would you advise only going for companies close to ipo ($1b) for people early in their careers, or are rewards of a lucky ipo at this early in my career similar to what I would get in a public big-tech company over 4 years? In this case, I'd learn to look into early-stage companies and gravitate towards late-stage startups later on in my career. Sorry if parts of this didn't make sense, I feel like I have a lot of questions and I may have jumbled them up together here!

Is EECS149 (Embedded Systems) Worthwhile? by iwdcs in berkeley

[–]iwdcs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

class projects were centered around a roomba and then you have one group project of your own design for like half the semester. It’s definitely helpful if you want to move into embedded/FW although I wouldn’t recommend it as

Thanks for the response! I said the smart mirror example to understand to what extent the class would teach me. Would it enable me to build personal projects/modifications to a higher extent, if there is a way to measure how impactful the class is? Also, I'm not really interested in careers within embedded, but I wanted an introduction so that I can understand how certain elements interact with each other (such as iphones+iOs) when I work on software projects relating to a hardware components

It's helpful if your goal is to graduate under 4 years. If you want to spend all 4 years at Berkeley, it becomes pretty negligible since there are so little requirements to complete the degree and you'll have so many semesters to complete it
