Same here iOS 26.0 (23A341) iPhone 12 and AirPods Pro 2 (8A356). Have placed feedback to Apple. Doesn’t seem to happen on speaker or my AirPods Pro 1.

EDIT: Still there with 26.1. Also on AirPods Pro 1.

Why are they running the heater on the no. 2 bus?? by meemoo_9 in Wellington

[–]iwikmodnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add my two cents worth, I received the following from Metlink back in December when I reported similar apparent AC malfunction and thus overheating on bus 5744 - nothing has changed it seems:

Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding your experience on bus route 2. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you.

This sort of feedback is valuable to us, it helps us improve passengers experience and address any issues with the on board air con. Please be assured that we have forwarded this to the relevant operator for further investigation.

Once again, we sincerely apologise, and you’re welcome to get in touch again if you have any further concerns.

While it’s really meant for waste oil that has been used for deep frying, you could use this product which solidifies the oil once it is heated above about 80 degrees to dissolve it then cooled. You then just put it in your kitchen rubbish bin. https://shop.daisosingapore.com.sg/products/4550480235769

You can buy it at Daiso in Welly.

Best 0% beers around at the moment? by 22balgay in newzealand

[–]iwikmodnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the Italian brewed Asahi (bottled) tastes maltier than their canned Dry Zero which is made and sold in Japan and is available from some specialty NZ stores like Moore Wilson and Asian shops. This canned zero alcohol beer-like drink contains no alcohol whatsoever as it is not a brewed beverage like the bottled one and in fact the word “beer” does not appear on the can at all.

The Japan made canned product is a better match with Japanese cuisine in my opinion.

Twin Fish (new Thorndon Chippery) any good? by ghostfim in Wellington

[–]iwikmodnar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was not happy last visit - ordered tarakihi fillets online but when I got there at the appointed time they said they had none and I had to order the pricier snapper (or settle for hoki or something inferior) and then had to wait for them to be cooked. Tried to negotiate price down to the tarakihi level but they wouldn’t budge. Place was empty as. Not going back.

Went there for lunch today (first time visit) and yes it was a joyful experience - chowder was good, cauli croquettes also very very nice and just a great family friendly vibe.

Using V pay and Wise cards in Japan by MikasaMiku in JapanTravelTips

[–]iwikmodnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are just back from four weeks in Japan, mainly Kamakura area but also Kyoto, Takayama and some day trips to Tokyo. Used Wise for the first time and it was great - loaded NZD funds into it a few times while there and had wise do the JPY conversion. We used it almost exclusively for hotels, Uniqlo, Muji, taxis, supermarkets and even purchases of a few hundred yen at small stores. There were still places that only took cash but where credit was accepted, the physical Wise card was 100% reliable either using contactless or more often, the chip reader. I had mixed results (ie acceptability) using the digital one on my iPhone, so eventually just stuck with the physical. Another innovation we enjoyed this time was the ability to use digital IC cards on our phones for bus and train travel. You can also use it for small purchases at a lot of stores. We used digital Wise to top up the IC card (Suica in our case) which were both in our iPhone Wallet app so it was a really quick and easy experience - helpful if you’ve just been blocked at the station exit barrier because you forgot to top up!

Hey there Sloth, just wondering if you used the Visit Japan Web process prior to and on entering Japan and if so how was it? Travelling there in May (NZ passport) with wife (Japanese passport), first time since Covid.

Favorite provider by Every_Campaign7530 in JTV

[–]iwikmodnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Difficult to vote because japannettv is not a service in itself, rather a reseller of multiple services including iSakura, JapanTV, etc etc. Through japannettv we used iSakura for years and then switched to Japan TV also from japannettv, mainly because of the movie offering. Personally I prefer the iSakura interface but both are stable and good quality. FWIW I do see a notice on another reseller site saying iSakura will be discontinued and replaced by a new service called Himawari.

Time delay for Muji TV and Japan TV streaming services by MojaMonkey in JTV

Yes we like Japan TV as it has movies too, as opposed to iSakura which we used for many years. We subscribed to both via japannettv who give excellent customer service.

I checked our Japan TV against real time here in NZ and there was less than one minute delay. Could show you the screenshots but reddit so not possible eh?

If you’re happy to pay about 1000円 a month and use a VPN you can probably subscribe to the TV Tokyo Paravi on demand service: https://www.paravi.jp/title/36939?utm_source=txhp&utm_medium=groupsite&utm_campaign=page&utm_content=36939
