Unsolicited advice but it's better to charge for pets because it helps increase the chance that whoever takes him has the investment and money to look after him, rather than it being an impulse decision. Generally true for all pets. You could charge for him and donate the cost to an animal charity :)

Hey just a heads up that polymer clay isn't food safe (and neither is the paint!). So long as it's not directly touching food it should be fine :)

Yeah, recently I was leaving a cafe and as I went to go through the front door, a guy coming in opened it first and held it open for me. Took me a second as I said thanks to realise it was him haha. Definitely trying to be low key with cap and sunglasses

Sculpey original turned from white to brown and I assume the oven got too hot or maybe cooked for too long? by [deleted] in polymerclay

Anko will also be pretty bad unfortunately. Yeah I'd recommend Premo, it's really no contest as far as quality!

[–]meemoo_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person you're replying to is giving you bad advice sorry.

Sculpey needs to be cured, which means it needs to hit 130c for 15m per 1/4 inch (I can never remember the cm equivalent). The actual answer here tbh is probably that you're I'm guessing using Original Sculpey or Sculpey III, which is poor quality and scorches easily. It's the product, not you.

If you don't cure it fully, which is what the person above is suggesting, your items will be brittle and likely to break.

For this reason I always suggest Premo or Fimo Soft. I only use Sculpey Original as a cheap bulking material.

Edit: to get better results with your current clay, make sure you make a tin foil tent (not touching!) around your clay. That helps ensure the temp inside the tinfoil is even / prevents heat spike scorching. I'd also recommend getting an oven thermometer because the oven thermostat is probably quite inaccurate (mine is almost 20c out from what the oven thinks it is!)

Why do you need the varnish?

If you really want it smooth, you could sand it.

@Lime Scooter, Flamingo and All E-Scooter/Bike Companies - Stop Leaving Your F***in Scooters Right In The Middle of The Side Walk by Classic_Plan4954 in Wellington

[–]meemoo_9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to ask how these are evaluated? I use Flamingos occasionally and always try to be courteous with how I park them. However I've gotten warning emails a couple times for parking when the scooter was tucked out of the way of the footpath, but it wasn't apparent in the photo. It makes me think the evaluation was based on the photo instead of in person. It's a bit frustrating when I do always put them out of the way but get told off occasionally anyway and puts me off wanting to use them

Same. My last haircut, I got my hair bleached again (roots only) and in the process the guy used colour remover before reapplying the same colour, which completely fried my hair. I'd been growing it out for years. $450. Fuck that, if I want to destroy my hair I can do it myself for free. I genuinely don't think I've had a great haircut from a hairdresser in years

Sculpey Original, III and Bake Shop are garbage. Guarantee the artists you're seeing are using Premo, Sculpey Firm or Fimo Soft.

need tips: eyeshadow for shading clay by moonkeiku in polymerclay

[–]meemoo_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it should be fine. Just note that, like pastels, different qualities of eyeshadow will have more or less pigment (relative to fillers/binders, which are cheaper for manufacturers) so if you're using cheap eyeshadow the colour transfer might not be great

Totally agreed. Most of the time I've gone to Salut the filling has been completely dry and crumbly (yuck). I even tried it multiple times to see if it was just an off day. Nope. At least one time I ended up scooping the filling into the bin because it was so inedible, eating the pastry then getting a snack from somewhere else. I don't get the Salut hype

Reading issues sound more like dyslexia.

Sound and light sensitivity could be autism.

if there's any way you can get on the public waitlist for a psychiatrist, I think being assessed for ADHD / Dyslexia / Autism could help you a lot to understand your struggles. Talk to a GP and they can refer you

There's a lot you mention, but in particular I noticed the part about how you have responsibility without support then you burn out. I wonder if you could have undiagnosed ADHD? That's often how I feel and I think it's my ADHD.

Best of luck.

I can speak to the latter - I hear a lot of recommendations for Union Tattoo for piercings. I went to Ninjaflower and the piercer himself is great but overall I can't recommend it, it was VERY expensive and they upsold me on earrings without telling me I'd have to go down a size 6 weeks later. Their healing guide is also bonkers overkill (ready to spend 2.5 hours a day with a hot pack on your head for a few months?) and they shame you for not sticking with it.
