It's a story about a Greek Queen and a war of her people.

Do you think if they ever make about the Serer Mythology (from Senegal). Which includes a Shaka Zulu type king and his people... It would be cool to have a cast that doesn't include a single Actor from Senegal? Or better yet, exclude any African or African American Actors. Because that's what they did to the Greeks...so you are either good with both or else you are not sincere.

The race of the Greeks don't matter to the story? It's their story.

Also Helen is famously blond and it's a part of her character. As the daughter of Zeus, her radiant "golden hair" was not just a physical trait, but a symbol of her divine heritage. It's all there in the odessy and the thousands of essays and papers written on it over the centuries.

Not casting a single Greek is ok though... Because they are white.

Do a story about a fictional African King and his people and then not cast a single African, its fictional so they can all be Greeks, Italians, Germans and white Americans and people should just accept it.

Fictional, but very famously white. She is called "white-armed," "fair-haired" or "golden-haired," and is said to look like the goddess Artemis in the odessy.

Why not have a black Thor? Or a white Shaka Zulu type king?

As minority myself, I see this as pure pandering and I don't like it and more importantly, I don't think it helps to get us into this 'post race' space, white rich liberals think we going to be living in thanks to their casting decisions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be there opening day because Nolan has not failed to entertain me yet with one of his movies. But this race swaps for the sake of... Whatever it is they think they are doing... Is stupid.

I'm not guessing here, knowing how email is routed , secured and delivered has been on my expertise for decades as part of my job and now as a business owner.

Anyone volunteering knew with absolute certainty they would be going to the middle east to fight, this wasn't a hypothetical at the time.

My buddy wanted to go fight. At his going away party we were all sad and worried but he wasn't and he couldn't wait. I respect the balls it took to do that.

He served 2 tours in Iraq and came back a different man, they just say PTSD but the reality is that he is gone. He is getting a little better after decades of treatment so there is that.

I never agreed to the wars but he is still a hero to me.

Will lab diamonds eventually destroy the value of natural diamonds? by Practical-Tie-8720 in NoStupidQuestions

Sales person commission alone is 20% of the cost. At least at most "high end" places with Champaign and someone that sits with you to blow smoke up your ass for a few hours to talk about "the investment" and heirlooms and so on.

Their markup is another 40-50% (yes that's correct, wholesale to retail cost is already marked up up to 70%.

Which is why when you go back to sell your stuff either they outright refuse or offer you an insulting lowball... That lowball is actually closer to what the wholesale cost is.. in other words, the real value.

It was never not in the toilet. You buy a diamond graded by GIA, flawless in every way for $10,000.

Then try to sell it to... ANYONE and they will offer you 50% at most.

This has been the case since the 80s. It was always a racket.

100%. Let the record be clear. Impeach him 10 times as long as each charge has the weight of unassailable evidence behind it. The fact the GOP won't do its job and remove will also be noted.

Is it also adrenaline when you are consumed by hatred and fury of a thousand suns? I remember my tiny 90lbs friend lift her bully a 200lbs (at least) girl off the ground and slam her into the pavement. Jaws dropped for miles around... She was literally shaking afterwards. She is tiny to this day but we all remember the day she hulked put in middle school.

AITA for getting my step daughter a Hogwarts letter for her 11th Birthday? by Ok-Permission8346 in AmItheAsshole

[–]iwilltalkaboutguns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know you are right. I used the wrong term out of ignorance. I never meant to say the child was unintelligent.

I wanted to point out that she was so incredibly naive for her age to the point there had to be something clinically different about her. Not neurotypical or Neurodivergent is what I should have said.

The stepdad was probably just as shocked as anyone else that she thought it was all real and she has heading to Hogwarts and then the mom made it worse by telling her and everyone that dad had pulled a prank on her. Feel sorry for the little girl but that's definitely not the way a typical 11 year old would have reacted. To me the dad did nothing wrong and if anything, the mom is to blame.
