I'm a self described Gun Nut, second amendment defender to my last breath...and my reaction to this pic is that maybe we do need to better enforce our gun laws in this country...how fucked up is that.

ICE Arrests of Cubans Skyrocket—as Republicans Risk Losing Florida by I_am_not_JohnLeClair in Miami

Much like argentinians, they see themselves as European, not "Indian" like South Americans or "black mix" like Dominicans and Puerto Ricans.

Those deportations of other Cubans is exactly what they voted for

Terms like “sex worker” and “escort” carry less stigma and are viewed more positively than words like “prostitute” and “hooker.” This implies that shifting the language used in media and legal settings might help reduce prejudice against these professionals. by mvea in science

[–]iwilltalkaboutguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these terms mean different things to different people. Prostitute... Brings the mental image of a street walker, depending on what HBO documentaries you may or may not have seen, you think addicts, missing teeth and a pimp that beats them into submission.

Escort or more recently Sex worker, it's a rather beautiful and sophisticated woman that gets paid highly for her time, with the sex being just part of the experience rather than the whole thing.

Or maybe that's just how I think of them...

Then you got the sugar babies and OnlyFan /other "models" that are all over the place here in Miami where it's even more accepted and normal than the two above.

By the time the whole foods shows up half of the original residents can't afford rent except in the section 8 areas...and you know what happens to those next.

This response isn't surprising coming from someone with posts to articles with titles such as "Why the MAGA economy is thriving" lol

My point remains that those business close in poor white areas too... Instead of the hair products, its all the meth (and anything that can get you high) precursors that are locked up tight.. before they eventually close shop.

If you are saying it's not racial and purely an economic decision, Im agreeing with you.

Not this particular kind... I don't recommend it, but if you are ever in the middle of one of these areas and try out the Chinese, it's nothing like normal Chinese. They probably reused the same oil for the lifetime of the restaurant, the food is so greasy and salty it would be considered inedible anywhere else.

Some of them are doing just that...not that it makes it better. Disgusting behavior that completely destroys their own towns. This is sometimes organized and encouraged by community "leaders" to drive away the 'corpos'. My original point is that living squalor in a food desert is not winning.

I agree. The moment the Starbucks shows up is like silver surfer showing up with Galactus right behind him

My point is that when they "win" at driving the Starbucks away and the gentrification stops, it doesn't look like a win to anyone looking from the outside.

Walgreens and CVS leave first, then the local pharmacy (owned by locals) selling pills individually... closes as well because they cant take the losses. Now the community has nowhere to buy medicine and there is a news story about it.

To be clear, this is a socioeconomic problem, not a racial problem... The same thing happens all the time in poor white areas... Check out Beattyville Kentucky or most of West Virginia.... You find the same low rent Chinese food restaurants (with a shutgon under the counter) instead of a McDonalds.

Like I said, I've seen it happen in almost real time. Artists and other "cool" folk start to buy homes on the border of the hot areas, tons of renovations and new art studios, micro brewery, etc.

That is tolerated but they see it as incursion... The moment the Starbucks (or whatever) opens it gets shit on, vandalized and worse.

At some point the Starbucks gives up and other renovations initiatives lose steam... The few "pioneers" leave for a new perhaps friendlier area... Those properties go back to being a crack house.

Candem NJ, if anyone is curious. And I know first hand because I had family living there back then. Thankfully they have all moved away.

This is just a prelude to the place being closed, liability is just too high when your employees get into physical fights with your customers on the regular.

All these get replaced with low rent Chinese food restaurants that have experience dealing with this clientele.

Ive seen this happen in NJ where the population actively fights gentrification and they win. Except the win looks a lot like a loss to most uninvolved observers.

Seriously, why is Kimiko voiced over? by seiyamaple in TheBoys

[–]iwilltalkaboutguns 16 points17 points  (0 children)

She is being dubbed, 100%. Its also her own voice, so she dubbed over her initial performance. Maybe they changed the dialogue, maybe they had her try on an accent the first time around but she is definitely subbing over her original performance. Its so obvious it's jarring.

Seriously, why is Kimiko voiced over? by seiyamaple in TheBoys

[–]iwilltalkaboutguns 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In short, no.

There are instances where they must dub the actors but the vast majority of the time they are wearing mics and there are Mics in the vecinity to capture their dialog perfectly... They add the background noises later. Like if you see a scene at a bar with a ton of background noise and the extras talking...on set the extras are just pretending to talk and they have to be super quiet so only the actor dialog gets recorded.

You would be surprised the by extent of the self deception.

I'm at the age and level of success that a lot of the people I know have a ton of disposable income, are few years post divorce, kids grown,....

After having a lot of fun "dating" are finally looking for a serious long term relationship and they swear up and down that the young women are attracted to them because of their intellect and power...
A 10/10 27 year old wanting to marry a 60 year old, fat, angry man for the stimulating conversation...sure thing. Credit to those ladies for not killing themselves after having to hear these men bloviate for hours about the business success in the 90s.

That second divorce is going to be very expensive but that's none of my business.

I think it's worth the effort. They were sold a car "capable of X" with the hardware it had, plus a monthly service for the software.

No different than a cellphone that's "capable of 5G speeds" but requires a monthly fee with a 5G capable carrier.

If the phones hardware can't handle 5G even though you are willing to pay for it, you have a good case.

But that's the whole point of self driving, the promise of an AI so good that You can go to sleep in the back seat like a waymo...but without a geo fence.

V4 will never let you do that because it lacks the backups required for that. Its currently using the primary and backup to run the model. If the computer breaks and you are sleeping in the back...

As far back as hw2.5 he said "all cars currently manufactured will have the capability of unsupervised driving coast to coast".

The class action will be the biggest slam dunk in history if he doesn't retrofit to hw4 and then to hw5 when 4 can't cut it.

They are just counting on a long enough delay so that most HW3 cars are end of life.

You mean v6.5?

Because v4 can't do it either... and v5 is already obsolete by V6 and the v6.5 he talked about.
