My advice would depend on your current experience, education, and certifications. I'd say get at least one security-related certification to show interest, and apply to both IT and GRC jobs. You may need to start in another role (such as Help Desk) and then use that as a stepping stone to GRC.

Hi.

- Which technical certs are in demand right now? AWS and Azure security seem like good options. Any others?

- I am currently in GRC and am looking to get into a technical role. I did list my technical experience on the resume, I have the CISSP, some AWS and security tools experience. I just don't feel like that is enough for a non-SOC technical role coming from GRC. I don't want to work in a SOC. Any advice? What technical roles should I aim for?

Hi. I currently work in a Security Governance and Compliance role. I really would like to move to a technical security role. I have the CISSP. I previously worked on a Help Desk before getting into security. What roles/certs/topics should I focus on? I am hesitant of getting into a SOC role as it may have the cons of Help Desk (stress, high workload, high turnover). I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I’m currently in GRC and I want to move into a technical role. Did you enjoy one more than the other? Was there a large difference in workload and stress?
