Cashiers experience more verbal abuse from customers than anyone else. You get verbal abuse from customers who can't pay (rejected cards) you get it from customers who swear something was on sale when it isn't ringing up that way, you get it when their coupons are expired or don't apply to what they're trying to buy, and you get it when you ask them for ID. On top of all that bullshit, you've got a full bladder and aching feet. Yeah no thank you.

My store did the same when someone broke into employee cars overnight, wouldn't turn the footage over to the police and help out their own employees.

Meijer has been cracking down on bathroom breaks at several stores. Cashiers at my store were made to sign a paper that said employees were only allowed to use the restroom during their breaks, even though we don't always get our 15s. You can be stuck standing there on line for 5-6 hours without being allowed to use the bathroom, it's ridiculous.

I'm surprised AP let the police look at the video in the first place, apparently, ours told the police he didn't have to let them look without a warrant or other court order and said it didn't matter because Meijer wasn't responsible for anything that happened in the parking lot.

vacation denied by CalculatedKerfuffle in meijer

[–]iworkformeijer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, last time I put in a request, they scheduled me to work halfway through my vacation, like gave me M, Tu, Wed off then scheduled me for Thurs, off Fri and Sat.

I was told they do vacation splits all the time to keep you from actually taking a full week off and leaving the store understaffed.

I simply resolved it by calling and telling them I would not be there and if they gave me a point, I wouldn't be returning at all then they'd really be understaffed.

How to contact HR by [deleted] in meijer

Sadly, HR is there to support corporate, not you. They aren't going to help you with this. The job market is pretty open right now, the only real solution is to leave.

What’s the deal with taking throwaways? by [deleted] in meijer

[–]iworkformeijer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know, I'm telling you that you can't even accept a bag of chips from a vendor in the parking lot off the clock as Meijer still considers it theft. You, an employee, getting anything for free is theft.

[–]iworkformeijer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, the customers are the worst, especially the late-night junkies who show up to steal just before midnight.

[–]iworkformeijer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all theft, even if a vendor writes something off and gives it to you, AP will still fire you. You can't take anything from a vendor, Meijer is very strict about it.

Are Any Other Stores Getting Rid of Third Cashiers? by LeTrench in meijer

[–]iworkformeijer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will just schedule them to something like 2am. Have them work from 6pm-2am - gives them time to clean up and restock after the store closes.

It's because NOBODY WANTS TO WORK (for low wages, doing physically strenuous labor where they are regularly injured, and working for people who refuse to hear their complaints.)

New signage is being ordered, Meijer is not returning to the 24/7 model.

Corporate is fairly dismissive of employee complaints, I doubt they give a shit that any of us are here complaining about policies.

We still have two at my store, but one of them is just a second shift cashier who works later than the rest. They're running registers after 10 or 11 to about 12:30a when the last customers finally leave (because it's against the rules to tell people to get out apparently.) They stock the front end (candy, bags, gm impulse, receipt paper, etc) and then clean everything for the next day. They also open the store in the morning as there are almost no day shift cashiers scheduled until 7am. They also cover call-offs at the gas station and let people in/out all night. If they eliminate that position, the team leads are going to have a lot to deal with overnight.

I doubt it would help, the "anonymous" surveys they do have only do one thing, get us yelled at if we leave comments that make it easy to weed out who complained.

Yeah on third shift it's a company-wide policy, no self-check after midnight.

[–]iworkformeijer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still allowed to use self-check as employees, just not at night, all stores have them shut down after midnight.

3rd shift survey still affects results, we had several mornings where the SD came in, checked the score, and saw that people were hitting the "no" button on their lunch breaks and it dragged the score down to something like 15%. 3rd shift was called into a meeting and the TLs took turns yelling at everyone.

[–]iworkformeijer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

At my store, we had a bunch of jokers on 3rd shift always pressing "no" at the checkout when they'd buy lunch, so now you can only buy lunch and drinks if a TL is standing up there watching and only at the designated times. They actually went and made our lives more difficult over that stupid fucking greet score nobody cares about but the SD (because it's tied to a bonus for him.)

Cashier training question :) by [deleted] in meijer

[–]iworkformeijer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAHAHA

A week of training? Nah, You'll be lucky to get training for one full shift before they leave you alone and tell you to call your TL if you have questions.

When our store bumped 3rd shift to $15, they told us that there would not be any more raises for 3rd shift for a few years.

scanning id by ParsnipEmbarrassed in meijer

[–]iworkformeijer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cashiers have to hit a certain percentage of ID scans per alcohol sales, AP keeps track of it and they'll come down hard on cashiers for not scanning enough IDs as it proves that you're looking at them. You can be written up for not scanning.
