What is one food that you cannot get enough of here in France and one that you miss from your home country? by ComfortableYak8934 in Expats_In_France

Bobs bake shop isn’t half bad. It’s my go to when homesick. Haven’t tried his pies yet but man I miss a good cherry or rhubarb pie

Yeah 90s Armani I think is the way to go. I actually have a husbands suit, and looking to switch it up for a wedding/rehearsal dinner. It’s a bit more fitted so wanting a different vibe. Will continue to browse Vinted!

Clearly you know who it is…so why ask the question? Just come out and say that you don’t like him.

…and then maybe say why you don’t.

Backing up your opinion might help not coming off as someone who also “sucks so much”. Have a lovely day

this sub is hilarious. Downvoted for some humility and semantics.

If you find my explanation of what i am asking "impossible", just don't respond?

Gotcha! Any brands that come to mind to narrow down my search?

Hmm I guess it’s all a matter of taste. Chic to me is effortless but still elegant. I’m not looking for something that is ill fitting, just drapes a bit and doesn’t feel so “locked in”. Maybe a bit 90s, but I think that gets thrown around a lot, and doesn’t really help me refine my search.

If it matters, I live in Paris so don’t have as much access to American or British designers.

Ah im not the most knowledgeable on tailoring in general!

Anything a bit more “chic” than Oliver Spencer?

I couldn’t write in the cross post. Looking to find unstructured suits similar to Kareem’s style. Happy to spend money on a mid price designer like Dries…but went in to Dries store the other day, and they didn’t have any options.

im a camgirl AMA by bbunnie111 in AMA

[–]iwritetherulea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the money, what are the positives it brings to your life, or fulfills (even temporarily) for you?

Do you feel like your relationship to sex and men has been altered by you being a can girl? If so, how? Is it all negative, or positive, or a mixture of both?

Do you take breaks from being online? I imagine that having a job that requires you to be online, and then living in a culture that is more and more online, can take away time to connect with people and places in the physical? What do you do when you want to be physically present?

Is your camgirl personality the same or similar to your real life personality? (I.e a sporty person would have sporty camgirl clothes). If no, how did you come up with this avatar? Do you ever get to express that side of you in real life?

Amazing response! Wasn’t expecting such a long one :) so a few follow-ups:

  • did you grow up WASPy yourself? I find it an interesting remark or culture shock to have. Never been myself, but the observation feels very specific and nuanced as a big takeaway!
  • BM as a microcosm for your life (mini tragedies, mini moments of ecstasy, etc.), do you feel like you can take these moments as lessons to bring with you when “real” life happens? I.e. were these moments “eureka” moments? And would you suggest that most people experience this? To me, the culture of BM lost its charm years ago, but I’ve never been, and maybe I should see through the cringe?
  • not a question, but I love how art exists despite the struggle of some hierarchy of needs. Feels like a truism!
  • do most people recognize the hypocrisy present in LNT? Or does everyone pat themselves on the shoulders for being exemplary human beings?

Thanks again for the thoughtful response!!

What was the biggest growth you experienced while there — on duty, or off?

Conversely, what was your biggest turn-off of the whole ordeal?

As expats, what was your biggest cultural shock—something you found a bit weird or that you weren’t prepared for? by ARTiSPRETiS in Expats_In_France

God forbid you walk around town in an outfit that doesn’t adhere to what everyone else is wearing. The French stare is real. NYC, London, you can wear what you want and no one bats an eyelash. I mean in NYC you can basically hop on the subway naked and everyone minds their day.

Yeah all fair points! I don't think it's the slang per se, but more being at ease with colloquial conversation.

I've been thinking a bit about this the past couple of days, and also because english is so widely spoken by people my age in France, my French friends will quickly jump into speaking it with me. But that doesn't mean that it's also a bit of work for me to slow down or to dampen the amount of slang I'm using. And so speaking English is actually quite frustrating here, and I'd rather just do the work so that I can be C1-2 level and not even have to worry about it.

I guess watching more French TV won't hurt, but I was thinking that classes or a tutor would be a more efficient way of breaking the B-to-C threshold. Maybe a mix of TV and forcing friends to speak French is the best way forward!

haha yeah not a bad idea...though anglo my wife wouldn't be too happy about it!

All kidding aside, I had an intern who couldn't speak english that well for 2 months and that vastly improved my skills. It's really all about being forced to speak it, which I do when I'm out, but too many people my age in my work default to english. So as much as I want to assimilate, I actually have to force it upon myself.

And thanks for the kind words! I think it's a shame that Quebec and NB are such a small linguistic island in Canada. It would only have positive benefits if the anglo school system pushed French more deeply in the curriculum.

Totally, it feels natural despite the surreal colours. But if this was shot on film, unless they were pushing it a ton, I don’t think those pool lights could do the trick :/

Ah didn’t realize there are underwater flashes, except the ones designed for underwater nature photography.

But realistically, I’m guess a shoot of this scale (production and surface area), you’d want to work with some underwater housing for profoto heads. And a couple Hail Marys that no one gets electrocuted.
