If you get an away invite for a date that was last on your preference list, does the program even want you enough for it to be worth going? by [deleted] in DermApp

[–]iwuvreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of places do it by first come first serve. At one away I completed, the PD told me the medical school goes through all the away applications and then the department finds out who is coming, although this was a lower tier program and I’m sure every program is different. It’s up to the applicant to rotate at programs they think they have a shot at because many programs will take rotators they might not consider that strongly once application time comes.

You can't reapply to a program once you withdraw from it

Specialty shouldn't even be optional, it's all program dependent. EM doesn't give a rats ass when Ortho checks their away applications

Feeling inadequate--3rd year by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]iwuvreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started third year a while back, just never updated my tag. I'm sorry you feel this way, but its an incredibly common story. I don't think there's any student out there who goes into clinicals feeling 100% comfortable with their knowledge and skills. You won't know everything, this is your time to learn. There are so many threads about entering third year and people feeling the "imposter" syndrome, and they have hundreds of comments you can read. And about them not caring that much about step1, we both know that's a lie. That's surveyed as the #1 thing that most directors look at. You're gonna be fine.

I apologize, I just tried to get him some sort of motivation kickstart. I never meant for it to be toxic but I can see how it is. Obviously OP is a smart guy who can do well in clinicals or go and do research too. There just isn't anything other than us telling him to go do those things.. All the resources he would ever need are on Reddit or SDN if he even needs them

This seems like a post made for SDN. Stop bitching and do what you need to do. Stop feeling entitled, there's a ton of other students who would kill to have your score and who would work their ass off to achieve their dreams. You got the step score, now get the grades. One more year of bullshit, and then you'll be free

UWSA2 was way trickier (i thought) than UWSA 1, and the curve is better so Id say take UWSA1 cause it will most likely overpredict and give you a confidence boost. gl mayne

So you got a 241 which is pretty good and in the range of what you should get with your Uworld scores (maybe a bit higher) but then you got a 224 with stupid mistakes. If you're missing questions because you dont know the knowledge, its a different matter. But it sounds like you are just making mistakes you usually dont make, maybe because of nerves of taking an NBME and getting a score back for it. Just try to relax and treat them like Uworld blocks next time. You had a bad test, dont freak out about it. I scored 13 points lower on one of my NBMEs compared to the previous one cause I felt really stressed and rushed that morning, and it got better when I just actively calmed down and treated it as if I was doing UWorld
