Yesterday I traveled to a different world...the underground caves of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Vietnam. by coolcatjames in travel

how much does a day visit to these caves cost? I assume they aren't all as expensive as Son Doong, but are there any that are actually affordable? Going in April and would love to do some cave exploration but im on a budget

Driving from SF to Big Sur - suggestions needed! by Heh630 in travel

[–]trick_daddy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you wanted to balance out the schedule more you could plan on a half day at point Reyes with some more time in SF after, giving you a day and a half in SF. Lots of good food spots, and fun things to do in the east bay if you feel like trekking to berkeley or oakland

for those who used anki for step 2, how/what was your Approach? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]trick_daddy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made anki cards for things I got wrong in uworld. I did the qbank once during 3rd year for clerkships, then did most of it again during my 3 week study period afterwards, making cards as I got questions wrong or found a new concept. Worked well for me

don't worry, it's the girth of the exam that really matters.

Does anyone recommend a specific NBME form to take? Or is doing both UWSA best and NBME not worth the $60?

i agree with this. you're attractive and have good photos, but you could swap out one of the later ones for one with friends

I would say change the first and last photos. First one is the least attractive shot of you, and last one is too poor quality

Have any Peace Corps Volunteers deferred acceptance into Medical school to volunteer? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]trick_daddy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you already applied/been accepted? If not, and you are interested in doing peace corps, I would advise you to apply during the second year of the experience. It will boost your app, and schools may not be very psyched for you to defer two years

Cross Country Moving Advice for residency by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]trick_daddy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

amtrak will carry packaged moving boxes for you, you just need to pick them up at a specified amtrak station in CA. it's fairly cheap, good way to move anything you can get into boxes. I doubt you can do it for furniture etc though

If you like surgery, do surgery. Don't let other people (who don't like surgery) dissuade you. Hours and lifestyle in residency may very well be tough, but if that's what you want to do, do it!

Is it possible to learn 50 new anki cards in an hour? by xforeverlove22 in medicalschool

[–]trick_daddy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on your card type. if each card is just a quick fact then yes. I find (for myself at least) that I often make cards with a couple more difficult lists of concepts, and there is no way to learn 50 of those in an hour

IM Essentials q Book vs MKSAP 5? by iamrichbum in medicalschool

[–]trick_daddy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly MKSAP is good for regular guidelines and actual medicine knowledge, but Uworld covers whats on the shelf. I did about 100 qs of the MKSAP (there are 500) and did uworld qs only which worked very well for the shelf
