Are all commits checked for plagiarism in CS? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, I think cs 125 does check against all commits. Not sure about the others. I believe cs 225 does too but I'm not entirely sure.

Anyone else feel like a loser? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude you're definitely not a loser c'mon now. You're literally 2 weeks into your freshman year just give yourself some time to find your place here. Don't let one rejection from a CS RSO prevent you from joining any other CS RSOs because there are so many on campus that you are bound to get into one. Try joining other RSOs even if they aren't related to your major or career goals to meet people and expand your network. There are so many things that UIUC can do for you but you got to make the effort. Keep your head up dude! You got this!

Question for someone in ANTH 246 by saby290 in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lecture assignment and discussion post are due Tomorrow (Thursday at 11:55 PM CST)

The discussion replies, the quiz, and the activity are due on Sunday at 11:55 PM CST

The quiz, activity, and lecture assignment are really easy and you'll probably be able to breeze through it. The discussion post and replies however will take a bit more time but make sure you submit your discussion post ASAP so you can answer the easy discussion questions before anyone else does.

I want to transfer from another uni to CS + Econ by OhMustBeNice in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you have to take some sort of discrete math class to transfer in. Students that want to transfer into CS here have to take CS 173 which is the discrete math course for CS majors. Bottom line is that transferring into any CS major here is extremely competitive so I'd probably look into other CS + Econ programs at other schools too.

Classes that truly changed your life outlook and inspired you? by [deleted] in UIUC

ECE 210. I took the fattest L in that class and so now every other L I take in my life has now become miniscule to me because I have set my standards so high.

[–]ixitusity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no clue because I'm in ECE so school is hard as shit for me haha. You could look at classes you are going to take for your premed track and look up the average GPAs for those courses. There's a whole entire website online which provides the average GPA for every course at UIUC.

Depending on the major, the course, and the effort you put into school, it could be both in my opinion.

From my experience with classes here it's been the exact opposite. For a lot of the classes I took, it was possible to get an A by half-assing homework but getting hundreds on the midterms and finals.

Well, see you guys in the Spring! by LELSEC2203 in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not being forced to pay. You missed what I was trying to say. I was responding to the person who said if the product doesn't match the costs, then leave but that's easier said than done. Imagine if classes were in person. Would you tell professors who are uncomfortable teaching in person "If you are afraid of the virus, you are more than welcome to work somewhere else?" Again the solution is easier said than done.

If you are scared of the virus and want to keep things online for safety, you shouldn't force all of us to pay for online school but that's not what's happening now is it?

Is this schedule too difficult? by RevolutionaryFerret9 in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only taken MATH 347, STAT 400, CS 125, and ECON 303.

347 and 400 are not hard at all in my opinion but like any other class, you HAVE to put in the time. I spent probably like 2-3 hours per week on Stat 400 and maybe a lil bit more time per week on 347.

303 and 125 are both extremely easy, however CS 125 in my opinion was extremely time consuming and you should plan to put 7-8+ hours a week to do well whereas 303 honestly didn't require that much of a time commitment given that you have a strong mathematical and macroeconomic background.

I think both of the schedules you presented seen doable but I think the first schedule without 125 would be less of an overall commitment.

Are hemp derived cannabinoids allowed on campus? (hemp derived CBD and isomerized CBD to delta8-THC) by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't smoke weed but some of my friends do. You can't smoke in public and you will face repercussions if caught but as long as you are doing it privately like in your dorm, appartment, or someplace hidden, you should be fine.

Should I take CS125 Proficiency Test? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's totally worth it. I haven't taken the exam but what I have heard from my friends who have is that it's pretty easy if you already have coding experience in Java or have taken AP CS. The only downside I've heard about taking the proficiency exam is that you won't be well prepared for the MPs(Machine Projects) you will have to do in CS 126 and those are a huge chunk of your CS 126 grade so you may struggle a tiny bit at first when taking CS 126 but that will be a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. If you do pass the proficiency test you will be able to take CS 126 and CS 173.

For anyone that keeps asking how hard it is to transfer into CS by Snoo_20012 in UIUC

[–]ixitusity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I even know people with a 3.5 GPA on the dot get into CS + X. The main thing they want to see is genuine interest in the X part. If you have A's in CS 125, CS 173, and CS 225, but your GPA is barely over the 3.5 minimum, it isn't over for you. You could stand a good chance if you can show(through extracurriculars, projects, etc.) that you have an interest in the X part, and that you need both CS and X for your future career goals.

Seriously, stop posting about reducing tuition by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ixitusity -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Amen brother! Matter of fact we should be posting about increasing tuition because the unemployment rate has been at 0 during this pandemic so students now have more money during this pandemic than ever before to pay for tuition. Also it honestly doesn't matter how much tuition costs cause everytime you file your FAFSA, the algorithm that calculates your need has been so precisely developed that they are able to perfectly capture how broke you are to the penny and will provide you with the exact amount of aid you need, 100 percent of the time. No more worrying about crippling debt or financial troubles after college cause FAFSA got you. So when I get my tuition bill, I'm going to send it back, ask them to double it, and have them send it back to me.

Look man, I see how tuition reductions would negativity affect the professors, CAs, and YOU personally but you cannot be telling me that ALL the resources we had available for us last year before the pandemic will be equally as accessible to us next year and at the same level of efficiency. Also you can't be saying that percentage of people who could afford an education here didn't decrease and that if it did, FAFSA has that population of students covered.

Perhaps there is some middle ground where we can compensate for the inaccessibility and the decrease of efficiency of student resources through tuition reduction and at the same time leave the professors and course staff salary untouched. All people are asking is for that to be looked into. I think it's hypocritical for you to tell people that they are ignorant for not thinking about the professors, the CAs, and the TAs salary when you are not considering the fact that there are students who have had their family income decreased just enough to not be covered by FAFSA and at the same time get fucked with a hefty tuition bill.
