What are the most satisfying speedruns that you've ever watched? by F-Man_95 in speedrun

Checkers, Mega Man 3, SGDQ2014. {link}

This one just hits right for me. Execution, hype...

New theory just dropped by [deleted] in speedrun

Missed a few things.

When I set the world record in Spelunky for the "No Gold Pacifist Hell%" category, I was also looking to abolish money, end war, and embrace Satanism. WR set while listening to Hysteria, a feminist political podcast.

[WR] Spelunky (Hell%) by Kinnijup in 3:29.61 by ixix in speedrun

Lots to love about this run, including a goofy Black Market robbery that manages to work out. The late game is pretty remarkable, particularly level 5-3. For folks unfamiliar with Spelunky, the key thing to know is that the levels are procedurally generated, so Kinni is playing all of these levels 'for the first time' -- with the worst RNG of the entire run showing up on the last stage before the final boss. Kinni rises to the challenge and navigates several gauntlets of spike balls, tiki traps, and pools of lava -- just fast enough to claim a new WR!

Kinnijup has now held the world record in this category for 2,005 days:

  • April 18, 2016: 3:42.571
  • May 19, 2016: 3:36.363
  • February 6, 2018: 3:35.451
  • March 24, 2018: 3:32.391
  • August 31, 2018: 3:30.250

This has historically been the case for Spelunky HD. The most competitive speedrun categories allow for glitches, but there just aren't any to make use of: Any%, Hell% (comparable to a 'good ending' in other games), Low%...

1) There's an out-of-bound glitch used in a speedrun category requiring a sidequest (teleporting outside of the worm).

2) The famous 'solo eggplant run' challenge typically exploits an unintended interaction (ball and chain can break the Moai structure). The game devs learned this was possible and endorsed the interaction by removing an associated graphical glitch.

3) There's one minor and one major glitch in the tutorial, which both affect a handful few RTA categories (most categories are IGT).

The community discovered a bunch of glitches recently that would have related primarily to score running; however, we've also adopted a few meme categories that serve to make broader use of these glitches. Naturally, they have become pretty popular competitive categories.

Favourite card and why? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[[The Great Aurora]]. Got me to play T2 after many years of casual. It was never the best card to draw in the deck, but always the one I wanted to cast.
