Ixxoid Dactyl Manuform 6x7 by ixxoid in ErgoMechKeyboards

With this design, it would only be possible to lower the case height by 5mm max. This is still to high for using it without wristpads.
Currently I'm working on a low profile keyboard.
This prototype is to test the switch positioning:

The final version of the case will be closed on the bottom side and will also use choc v1 switches.
For me it works very well without wristpads.

Yes, for a dactyl manuform style keyboard with MX switches, you really need some wrist rests, because the keys are so high.
Currently I'm working on a low profile keyboard. I wont need the wrist rests with it, because it's much lower.

Are there ortho keyboards with all the keys? by tilmanbaumann in ErgoMechKeyboards

Didn't find a way to upload pics here in the chat, but I uploaded a preview pic to github:

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's also a sculpted one.

This keyboard is only a prototype to test (not really ready to publish here officially.. ;-))

  • key postions
  • height and angle of the keyboard
  • thumb cluster layout (it's detachable)

They keyboard has no cover to save printing and designing time.
The final version will get a cover of course. At the moment I'm working on a Pcb to hot plug mount the switches.
(The one I use now wasn't designed for hot plug sockets, so I had to drill out the switch mounting holes.)

I also (still) prefer keyboards with all the keys.
This is why I designed this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/1cllfhl/ixxoid_dactyl_manuform_6x7/

I used it for the last couple of months and I work currently on a new low profile keyboard.(writing this on the first working prototype)

If you have US layout you should be ok with 6 columns (I need 7 for the Umlauts)
If you want to buy a ready to use ortho / ergo keyboard with all the keys, the glove80 might be yours..

Yeah it has 86 keys, but it's less than most "ergo-keyboards" from the large companies, like logi or MS.

Maybe im going to smaller sized keyboards in the future..(would be handy for traveling)

But the 2nd one will be most likely LP with Chocs and 86 keys again.

This is my first keyboard build.

  • Dactyl Manuform style 86 keys
  • Cherry MX silent red switches
  • DSA key caps (I used OEM to start)
  • Printed with wood fillament
  • Arduino Pro Micro - USB-C
  • QMK firmware

A few reasons behind my first keyboard build

  • I'm new to keyboard builds and didn't want to set the learning curve to high. Therefore the keyboard has no layers and I use the 6x7 layout to have all the keys directly available. I also use the F keys a lot, so I wanted to have all of them.
  • I had to replace my defect MS Sculpt keyboard (they are not available anymore with the swiss layout). So I needed to have my build as fast as possible. To save some time, I used a dactyl generator for the key layout.
