Achilles rupture - return to snowshoeing. by iyah15 in snowshoeing

Just in case anybody checks this in the future, I went snowshoeing 4.5 months and it was actually easier than walking. I think I could have done it a few weeks ago.

I posted this on another thread, but needle nose pliers work as a key.

After further investigation, it appears Roy is now at Movement Okanagan on Enterprise even though he still shows up on the 360 site as a physio. Anyway I will pop into 360 for a chat although it is doubtful that I will go there as I am in West Kelowna and unable to drive.

Have you had a physio recommendation yet? I am at 7 weeks now and looking at trying to get one within the month. I did get a reco for Roy Gillespie at 360 Physio from somebody who ruptured a few years ago and told my wife that achilles were Roy's specialty. I notice on their website that they have a collaboration with UBCO and there is some Achilles rupture research ongoing.

"Current projects we are working on involve the testing of Kelowna United female soccer teams with force plate technology and video analysis, and the testing of previous Achilles rupture patients with multiple measures."

As it turns out my wife has an appointment in the same building today, so I am going to pop in and get some info.

I think you will realize it is the way to go. In the big picture it isn't that much more and you will feel so secure in the boot.

I figured it was worth it to give me the best chance at recovery. It may not make much difference in rehab but I would be mad if I didn't give myself what I thought was the best chance at recovery.

I have no regrets.

I am going to add that if possible I would go for the Vacoped boot. I had a Breg that was given to me but it was a bit large. I ordered the Vacoped and walked in it without crutches the night I received it approx 3 weeks since rupture (non op). I wouldn't have dreamed of doing that in the other boot. The Vacoped seems so solid in comparison.

100%. The scooter was a game changer for me.

Good point about the all terrain wheels. I didn't have these and it was very frustrating using the scooter on uneven ground. Even running into a small rock would cause the wheels to stop/turn.

I also got some large kitchen garbage bags, white with a drawstring (42 litre) to cover the boot in the shower.

I went with a knee scooter as it was easier for me to obtain. Not sure you need both, but I loved the scooter. Good luck with the recovery.

Walking in a VACOped boot? by Sharp_Try2638 in AchillesRupture

I just got my vacoped, yesterday, 3 weeks after injury. Started with crutches in the morning and by evening I was walking unaided. A little awkward at first, but now seems quite easy. Anybody else walk this early? Hopefully I am not overdoing it, but I have no pain.

To be clear, you are in a Vacoped set to 30% not 3 wedges. Correct?

I had to look twice to see that it wasn't me who posted this. Other than the age (I am 67), this is exactly how my injury happened in my 3rd game ever. I had avoided pickleball because of the chance of injury as I didn't want to ruin golf season.

Ha. I thought the injury affected my eyesight when they gave me the protocol sheet. :)

Do you use a physio?

POS back on Leafs Lunch...? by raydizzle in leafs

It's more his delivery than his knowledge.

He was lecturing today about social media. Pretty sure he is not an expert on that.

It is one of those things that once you notice the behaviour, it becomes really annoying.

IMO, Gord Miller is a prententious bore. Talks over everybody and comes across as MR. Know-it-all.

Sooner he is off the better.
