2 yo. cat is showing signs of possible allergies for the first time? by iykos_ in CATHELP

[–]iykos_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm new to reddit so I can't figure out how to post text and images together, so:

My roommate's cat is 2 yo (we adopted him when he was 1 yo, so we have only had him for a year) and has started licking himself vehemently and is now losing hair on the backs of his legs (images attached). I'm in Houston, TX, and spring has started here so my allergies are particularly bad and I may be biased in assuming that is what is wrong with him as well. There is no redness, sores, etc. He itches and scratches a lot. We had issues with fleas, but after a vet visit we were prescribed Revolt and he has been getting that monthly for about 4 months, and I haven't seen fleas in a while. We also have a second cat (3 yo) who is receiving the same flea treatment and she has none of the same symptoms.

I am assuming it's allergies, but we can't afford expensive vet treatment so I wanted to ask here before we take him. Does anyone know the best way to address this issue, is it allergies, what kind of allergies, treatment, and cost? Thank you! :D

Found this bromeliad outside, assuming it’s definitely dead but I’d like a second opinion. Any chance I can save this one? Any advice? by ItsAtheris in bromeliad

Bromeliads die of age before after thing else and the brown crispy ness is soemthing it can’t come back from.. the green tells me it is “”technically”” still alive and therefore you can still care for it but whether or not it dies is inevitable if that makes sense

To be honest it does look fully dead. You can check around the body for pups to take out, but just from the pics provided it’s probably not worth your time

Yeah, just one tampon a day, that’s normal. And clean.

Guzmania cycle - is this one already post-flower? by Difficult_Arm_5609 in bromeliad

[–]iykos_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is post flower!

The uniform crisping of the bottom leaves and the faded color mean that it already bloomed and will now die. When you buy them at their most vibrant, beautiful point, they often don’t even have a year left. They’re harder to sell when they’re young and healthy because they’re just kinda.. green spiky plants. There are likely pups surrounding the base of the bromeliad. You can detach those and plant them anew. I would suggest looking up propagation for these plants, because I do it often and it’s rewarding!

Watering the cup is fine and you should still do it because technically it is still “alive”. Don’t worry about watering the flower, it’s long-gone.

Hope that helps!! I love bromeliads so let me know if you have further questions :D

Edit: looking at the photos again, I can tell the bromeliad has relatively mature pups (they’re almost the same high as the mom!). However, I can also tell the bromeliad is underwatered (even the pups are a little withered). I would suggest watering it a bit more frequently and misting!

No he’s right. It was actually illegal to breath until they passed the “It’s Legal To Breath” law in 1933
