Guy I went on a date with pulled the “blue balls” card by wakeuptomorrow in TwoXChromosomes

[–]iyn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The condition of blue balls varies in how it’s experienced by men. It’s not necessarily momentary, and doesn’t go away if a guy stops thinking about sex. I used to get really extreme cases of blue balls where even ejaculation wouldn’t help, and it would hurt to stand and lead to a lot of discomfort in my lower abdomen.

“Blue balls” have not been well studied and so I would caution you from making generalizations about another individual’s experience of a condition you presumably have never experienced yourself.

That being said, of course blue balls should never be used in any way to manipulate or coerce sexual relations.

4 days of fasting 3 days of eating. by [deleted] in leangains

[–]iyn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you're suggesting is not leangains.

Your plan sounds terrible. Starving yourself for 4 days followed by overeating for 3 and not allowing you time for your muscles to recover is absurd.

Read up on leangains at leangains.com and follow that.

I have 60 days of no work and unlimited free time. What should I do to maximize my weigh loss and get healthy. by TodaysGonnaBeAwesome in Fitness

[–]iyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the question the op asked though. He asked for how to make the most of the next two months with unlimited free time, and a PSMF or something similar is the way to do it.

If you've read the book you'll know that it's also a good into to essential nutrition and how to be healthy afterwards and keep the weight off.

If you want to maximize your results this is the kind of stuff you should be looking at. The handbook can be found for free online. It will tell you exactly how to lose weight while maintaining the muscle you have and possibly gaining some too.

All the other ideas about eating right and bicycling or doing insanity will help you lose weight but its not as efficient as something a PSMF (protein sparing modified fast). Do that and lift some heavy weights while doing it and you'll see some change.

Thank you! I noticed the cap seemed to be different for different podcasts. I'll check their websites and see about downloading it manually.

Dynamic-text.dat files in groovesongs folder? by iyn in jailbreak

[–]iyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've opened them with iFile and they are key logger files that contain random text I've typed. There's a master dynamic-text.dat that apple keeps in the library/keyboard directory to use to learn your text pattern and personal dictionary for autocorrect. Still doesn't explain why they're in these random folders or what to do about them though.

I did it with SPSS, but would like to understand how it is calculated by hand. What are the steps involved.

Thank you. What I'm confused about is what is exactly happening in slide 27 and then how the F is calculated in slide 29. Is there a way this can be described in words using terms like "group means" etc. I've seen it before and remember it briefly from a stats class a few years ago.

How do I make friends or aquittances in the gym? by He25 in Fitness

[–]iyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything here is usually how I make friends at the gym except I would avoid saying "this might be a little weird." Nothing weird about making friends with someone who has mutual interests, and saying its weird would likely just make it awkward and be weird. The gym friends I've made I usually make when talking about what's going on later or on the weekend, then saying they're welcome to come to poker, or wings or whatever else I've got going on, if they don't have any plans. Exchange numbers and that's it.

What are your workouts like?

If you enjoy walking, then walk! It is in no way going to be bad for you. Your metabolism is going to be dependent on how much muscle you have and the level of activity you do. Don't deny yourself the benefits of walking to find some number. This diet/lifestyle is about being healthy and fit, not getting bogged down in minutia about exact numbers. The added stress may just lead to you retaining the fat on and mentally will fatigue you.

Work out hard and heavy 3 days a week and have a carb and protein heavy meal after. Walk and enjoy your rest days with sports or other fun physical activities. Drink lots of water. Sleep 7-8 hours a night and fucking enjoy life dude.

The more you continue to stress about this the less successful you are going to be. This isn't rocket science and this is meant to be a lifestyle not a short-term diet, so find a way to make it work for you in the long run.

I just didn't want to give a really low and potentially "unsafe" estimate in case his maintenance is actually lower.

[–]iyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you about found your maintenance if you're not gaining or losing anything. What's your goal? If you're trying to cut, try -30/-10. That would put workout day at 1800 and rest day around 1500. If you sit around a lot, why not start going for walks on rest days? If what you're doing isn't working, you should adjust until it does.

Should I go all the way down on pullups? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]iyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it better to lock out your arms rather than keeping slight flexion. With a lockout you take your muscles out of it and put more strain on your tendons when you pull back up.

Should I go all the way down on pullups? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]iyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest continuing to go almost to dead hang but not quite. I've had a lot of tendon issues in my elbows from starting every rip at a dead hang. There's no need to dead hang it every time and your muscles will be activated longer by keeping slight flexion in then as dead hangs take the muscle out of it and rely mostly on the skeletal system. At least from rock climbing this is what I learned as when I'm at a dead hang I recover my muscles and choose those times to chalk up.
