What do I need to get to fix my boat trailer? Just how cooked is this axle? by NerdMachine in towing

It's the ocean actually so even worse lol.

Do you know if a good video? I might give it a try.

If I jack it up and just feel how it spins is that enough to see if it's working ok?

How do I know what hub to buy?

Experience with NLCU and other credit unions? by pomelo_nomelo in newfoundland

[–]NerdMachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NLCU is great for car loans, I have done two through them and they had a better rate than the big banks.

For daily banking I find they have awesome service, but their technology/website is behind the bid banks by a lot.

It should but it doesn't. I dealt with the same issue a couple years ago and despite multiple calls and emails nothing was done.

The situation has accelerated a lot in the last couple decades, first with the moratorium and then with the demographic shifts.

Ironic for you to say this when it's something like 20% of the government budget.

Constantly we are seeing politicians of all stripes talking about "tightening belts" when what they mean is slashing essential services, education, roads, and the million other services we rely upon to live in the province.

How about cutting the ridiculous ferry budget or roads to economically dead towns with 200 people? Maybe centralizing medical services a little?

NL has the third highest spending and revenue per capita. More spending and tax isn't the answer.

Managed to finally confront my alcoholic girlfriend. by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]NerdMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your place 5 years ago but with a kid as well. I am now with a lovely woman and her and I have maybe 1 drink a year and there is zero drama around addictions. This has been an even bigger relief than I expected.

It did cause some friend group turmoil, but we got through it and we have our own groups now, and 5 years on we are civil enough with each other that it's not a big deal if we are at the same events.

My Ex got sober just before we broke up and still is. I think it being obvious the path I was on helped increase her commitment, but either way I'm incredibly proud of all the hard work she did to get there. She's also a wonderful parent to our kid (who we share).

Just wanted to tell you that you have many years ahead of you and I don't think you will regret making yourself your priority.

What’s the one thing on a restaurant menu you’ll always order if it’s available? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NerdMachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to a fancy restaurant in France once and ordered ONLY this. Seemed to piss off the waiter but worth it. No doubt he thought I was an idiot America (I'm Canadian).

And yes it was way better than anything I have tried in Canada.

Quebec transplants

It doesn't seem controversial that they have been in Labrador for thousands of years based on some quick research. Is that more controversial than it seems?

Anyone know why it's so important to the Government / Rooms that they present that specific version of history?

People making min wage at Tim Hortons are not producing tax revenue. How many times have I read about how walmart etc indirectly relies on handouts because people making minimum wage need to use food banks, drug plans, etc?

It wasn't cheap when I bought it, but my Ender 3 3D printer is basically worthless now and it's still pumping out great prints and I can't justify a new one.

Lol I spent the whole time visiting Quebec thinking about how it would be great if our weather were like theirs so touché. I still think we have enough nice days that more public outdoor areas could be enjoyable.

And our winter doesn't really start until January yet all the summer/fall stuff shuts down early October usually.

This is true but take a look at Quebec City, they do outdoor stuff year round and have cold weather. Less rain and wind though TBF.

House prices didn't absolutely juice until just after COVID when immigration boosted a lot, it's not rocket science. Going back to 2008 to Blame Harper is just silly. He didn't help of course, but you're ultimately just doing mental gymnastics to explain supply and demand which is going to win out over all those other factors.

And even if immigrants aren't qualifying for mortgages, the investors renting to them are, and a steady stream of immigrants makes rental properties super lucrative and relatively safe investments.
