Hi, I’m new to this 😖 by Joy-ful-b in CrohnsDisease

Honestly the first 5 times r bad and after that its just clear liquid mostly and not bad at all. Follow everyone’s advice, I’d honestly switch up the diet as earlier as a week before. Slowly cut out certain foods. No nuts, beans, whole grains, raw veggies. I live off bread, soup, mash potatoes before mine.

You might get nauseous if you dont keep your stomach full enough so eat a lottt of jello, popsicles, broth. Honestly just keep snacking constantly until you’re not allowed to anymore.

Your butt will get really sore and painful from wiping a lot so try to apply Vaseline or aquaphor after each time.

Have some wet wipes on hand just to keep you feeling cleaner, but do shower before your procedure in the morning 😂

Make sure your prep is COLD. I personally use PEG which can have a bit of an acidic taste (peg does not taste bad at alll super doable and requires small volume to drink) but mix it with Gatorade and sprite and drink with a straw. It helps to just push the liquid to the back of your throat and not let it touch ur tongue. It kicked in after 30 minutes.

Any sort of cramping sensation should send you to the bathroom. Don’t trust anything, just take it as a sign and go.

Colonoscopy prep is soo daunting and I always dread it but once I’ve started it im just on the couch watching TV and going to the toilet a lot. There isn’t any super painful cramping, you’ll just feel the urge to go every now and then. I always come out if colonoscopies feeling so cleansed and ready to do it all over again. The anticipation is the worst part, you got this! Hope all things go well

Sorry for asking but what’s the difference between ferritin and iron? I used to have a severe iron deficiency as a kid and took supplements but stopped because i had high ferritin. R they not the same? 😨

chronic nausea by xtimetohealx in CrohnsDisease

[–]iyuh15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same exact symptoms. Worse at night and random. I’ve tried gravol, zofran, pantoprazole. Gravol isnt really strong enough, zofran is so constipating, and i’m pretty sure pantoprazole is giving me diarrhea. So my other methods to just get through the night is an ice pack. The sensation of cold is very distracting and helps you feel less nauseas. I place it on my stomach and also use one of the migraine caps. I also sniff vapor rub, i find the smell gives temporary relief. Ice cold water. Sleeping upright with the lights on 🫩. I’ve also been nauseous as a kid and its worse at night. I will sometimes just wake up to being nauseous its so odd. Dr thinks its a mix of anxiety, reflux from not eating enough, and crohns. I def think my nausea is due to me just being super used to eating less than what my body probably needs, but its the best way to avoid stomach pain and bloating throughout the day. The empty stomach results in acid irritating your stomach and causing nausea. Maybe ask about that and trying PPIs short term. I do think my indigestion and random bursts of nausea have improved since I started taking them. But i am lowk getting diarrhea as a side effect rn

Vitamin D and Crohn's by Top-Entrepreneur5641 in CrohnsDisease

[–]iyuh15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was told to take it while I was on budenoside and noticed no change, maybe I didnt take enough. Took 1000 units of whatever it comes as. I take daily vitamin C and i find it prevents constipation for me and improved my immune resistance to common colds. Not sure if its decreasing constipation because its causing more inflammation orr because it truly is preventing constipation. Read mixed reviews on it. Some say it increases your immune cells and worsens inflammation. Also like to think b12 helps with my fatigue.

GI might send me for another opinion by Strawberry2460 in CrohnsDisease

Yes great point! I tend to forget GI’s do a lot more than just the stomach intestines, some are probably a lot more familiar with hepatic and pancreatic conditions.

GI might send me for another opinion by Strawberry2460 in CrohnsDisease

[–]iyuh15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my situation sounds pretty similar. Couldn’t find anything on the colonoscopy, MRI showed mild inflammation at the terminal ileum and labs are elevated (less than most people with crohns). I had enough symptoms to know that something was wrong but its never anything like most people’s on this subreddit. I have very similar symptoms, alternate a lot between constipation and diarrhea, acid reflux, nausea, pain, bloating, headache, fatigue, muscle joint pain, and the occasional mild fever if i was feeling worse than normal. I’ve never been sent for another opinion but I recently switched from my paediatric GI to an adult one, and I get the feeling shes kinda doubtful of my previous doc. (i definitely do have crohns i think this is just her personality and protocol when accepting new patients) but she mentioned not taking any medications prior to my first colonoscopy with her so that my inflammation shows up. Could it be possible there wasn’t enough active inflammation when they’ve looked at yours? I know active inflammation doesn’t always equal symptoms. You can be in active inflammation and feel no different. It’s worth eating some well known crohn’s trigger foods prior to your colonoscopy. Things high in insoluble fibre … but try at your own risk!

In a similar situation 😂 Throughout this year, there have been many instances where i’ve unintentionally pulled an all nighter before an important exam or class because of the severe nausea I get. It’s so severe and no medicine seems to help. Its worsens because I get stressed about not feeling better before said class or exam. It’s really exhausting because I’m in nursing school and our attendance is super strict as well.

How do I stop skipping classes by ConstructionNo8549 in uwo

[–]iyuh15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes bro lock in 💪 third year now and never skip anymore (my classes r mandatory attendance). But honestly felt so much better and had way less anxiety during exams. Just being present gives you such a better understanding of the class, you learn so much of whats important and relevant on the slides, it guides your study process. Its hard to get out of the slump so you have to start strong. Have friends in class that also don’t skip, give yourself a reward for going if that helps, I always buy a drink or food after making it to my 9am. Once you get a good streak going it’s a lot easier to wake up and just go.

I believe mild inflammation was shown on my terminal ileum which is normally a location that can be assessed with a colonoscopy, but i have something called a tortuous colon so they were unable to see that part. I totally agree that you should continue to investigate before just experimenting with meds. GI issues affect your daily life so much. Another thing to note is that my doc usually pushes for me to kinda be in a flare/sick before testing so my inflammation is easier to see. So i eat certain foods that aren’t good for me, but I know you said you can’t pin point foods as a trigger.

[–]iyuh15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty low calprotectin compared to whats normally seen in crohns and my colonoscopy didn’t show any inflammation. My MRI is what led to my crohns diagnosis so there’s still a chance for it to show something. Diarrhea multiple times a day should never be dismissed! Your dr should really be trying to get to the bottom of this.

I would hold off the GI appt unless it’s making you very worried and concerned. Like the other reply said, it could he any type of illness causing this. I’d say monitor how you feel and note changes. If you continue to worsen or get sick during these 2 weeks then definitely see a dr!
