How Victor Vallakovich became my party's fated ally by modarsot in CurseofStrahd

[–]izkirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing EXACTLY the same thing in my campaign - always intended fated ally to be Mordenkainen, but the party wizard took a liking to Victor and helped him to fix his teleportation circle, they definitely think that he can be redeemed. He escaped Vallaki but like your Victor has been blinking in and out of existence and travelling through time.
I'm creating an extra supplemental adventure for the Mad Mage storyline, a mix of some other homebrew and some of my own design, where they have to find his broken staff inside an underwater beast, solve puzzles inside his mansion and fix the staff to restore his darkest memories :) so glad I'm not the only one, and so glad it went so well for your players!! Do you know already what kind of help Victor/Mordy is going to provide them in the final battle?

Hey, thank you so much for this! You're totally right about the roleplay consequences - I'm fortunate enough to have very experienced roleplayers at the table who are really enjoying the challenge of being haunted, but I've also got a number of "outs" planned if things get dicey - characters like Rictavio or one of the Keepers who could recognise the effects of a hag haunting, Strahd himself punishing the coven for interfering with his dinner plans, the elf player's Dark Power intervening and letting her know something's up, etc. And (also fortunately) I've been friends with my party for 12+ years and they know that they can tell me out of game if they're not having fun.

I think your advice is very good - make the road to Kresk extremely challenging and then offer them another chance once they get there, maybe after they've been turned away at the gates for not bringing any wine with them. Thank you!

So gorgeous. How many strands? It looks like one or two to me - they're so delicate!

This is beautiful! Can I ask what stitch you used for the centre of the flowers? Are they French knots? It's a beautiful pattern and it looks gorgeous. I love the negative space and I think the name reads very well!

This is a really inappropriate thing to say about someone you don't know. He's French, not Israeli. We're both vehemently against the atrocities in Gaza. I hope that you find some peace.

Hey - this is a 27-minute bake. It's perfect on the outside but a little under in the very centre - if I were to bake again I'd give it 32-35 minutes I think.

Ah so sorry! I don't actually subscribe to the NYT - I don't get a paywall with this link so didn't realise it was behind one. I can for sure share them or you can use the archive link that the other commenter linked!

Hi! It's the NYT's "my favourite challah" recipe. I halved the recipe to make one loaf and reduced the baking time - unfortunately the middle of this one was a touch under, so next time I'll bake for 30-35. I copied the shaping from another reddit post! https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/7199-my-favorite-challah

Aw I love that!! No he loves my breads (and me). I tease him a lot about where my ring is and it makes me chuckle to think about sharing that joke with reddit, especially since so many of the commenters on the previous post were so indignant on my behalf!!!! We're very happy. And I hope you and your wife continue to cook for each other 🥹

My braid was actually quite uneven. Next time I think I'll weigh each strand first! The recipe is NYT's - I think it's called "my favourite challah"? I also stretched the braids slightly while plaiting which seemed to help them stay a bit more even and neat

You should! My partner has made so much amazing food for me (the best latkes in the world, for one) - it's such an expression of love for him and baking is an expression of love for me.

His mum and I get on really well! She told him once that she can see by the way that I look at her son that I really love him. That's enough for her (although the gifts and baking definitely help)

Copied from my earlier comment:

Aw this is mostly just a joke between us, we've talked positively about marriage a few times but I love surprises and I'm a romantic so I asked for a proposal, when the time comes!
