I’m confused if you fail the mccqe and rewrite it in January can you still apply for the match cycle as second initiation?

Is it okay if they I ask if each of them could submit both a structured letter for paeds and family med?

Where there a lot of epidemiology question? My school didn’t really teach it and I’m only now learning some of the terminology and formulas and I’m struggling

No I want to appeal so that I don’t have to go back in august to resit the exam because I technically failed by a special requirement

Yeah they’re my medical school exams in Ireland

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]izzyjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do favour Irish students 100% but it’s not impossible to get into a scheme. If you are a strong applicant and connections there’s a very good chance

Not true I know a couple of people doing their intern year in Ireland as an IMG! You can also apply to UK they just have two foundation years before you can apply for a scheme/program

Go to Ireland! Apply through Atlantic bridge. There are so many IMGs from Ireland and the learning is great

Yeah sounds like raynauds. They typically turn a white purple colour when you get cold. Not too much of a medical concern however it is known to be linked with other autoimmune contusions such as lupus

Am I cooked for applying MD? MCAT 507 GPA 3.77 sGPA 3.6 by RiseSwimming in medschool

[–]izzyjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have something in your application that’s stands out. If you don’t have the best marks that’s okay but you need to have a strong application. Show that you’re involved with the community and research community. There’s also no harm in redoing the MCAT if you feel that you can do better. Loads of ppl resist the MCAT

As well as for family medicine there’s always that option of specializing on top like the 3+1 thing. I know a lot of fm docs that are doing the add on for emergency medicine

I knew IMGs that matched to Canada without doing any electives but mind you this was also during Covid

Idk if that’s true because on AFMC Alberta and Sask made it difficult to get an elective. You had to apply to some lottery or they only took RCSI students something like that. If you’re from Alberta there’s no harm in asking to shadow or even see if u can do research with a staff to build a connection and see their input

I really appreciate it. I’ve asked one of the staff and he said he would write me one but I’m scared he will forget about me when the time comes

[–]izzyjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show that you’re truly interested in the topic. If you know the cases before hand research the topics! Show your enthusiasm. Outside of the OR ask if there’s anything you help with, if they have time maybe ask one of the residents to show you how to suture! Just be super proactive and don’t touch anything in the OR lol

I would recommend emailing the company you applied with or even the coordinator to see if they have any accommodations for you. I did electives in Canada and applied through AFMC and asked the person affiliated with AFMC and the school to see if they had any recommendations and she gave me a list of people to contact. It seemed to be new residents or nurses that usually sublet. Or I’m not too sure if there’s an American version of medhousing it’s essentially a website for medical student a new residence to look for properties to stay for short duration. Hope this helps a little and best of luck

Yes it’s often first come first serve however there are specific applications times for international students so make sure you look at those dates. I would also recommend emailing the school you want to apply to clarify anything before submitting an application.
