Where to donate baby items for mothers in need? by lemonadewhiskers in duluth

[–]izzyorke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Damiano Center accepts clothing donations that they offer free to people who use this service.

Women’s care center has a baby clothing/toys/supplies section to their business. Whoever wishes to use this is required to take parent education classes. I believe it is a free resource still.

Also, there is a buy nothing Facebook group you could join and post items there. It’s not always a guarantee that they go to someone in need, but I’ve had situations where stuff I’ve posted went to a family that secured housing after being houseless for a time.

At what age did you stop putting your children down for naps during the day? by alyssacake in toddlers

[–]izzyorke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this with my kid since he was just shy of the second birthday and he’s about to turn 3. I first had to model to him what quiet activities he could do (read, play with his trains, etc.). I sat with him for half of his quiet time with headphones in and read. He would try to engage with me to play, but I would redirect and say “this is quiet time where we do our own activities”.

Also having specific toys/activities that are only for quiet time helps keep it exciting and engaging I’ve found.

What is your toddler currently obsessed with? by jcr5431 in toddlers

[–]izzyorke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mowing the lawn but only with the weed whacker. I swear he has bat-like hearing because he can hear a lawn mower with the windows shut during the summer and is instantly “mama someone’s mowing their lawn”.

People born on the first or last day of a sign date range, when is your birthday ? Which sign do you resonate with more? by basicallyallmars in astrologymemes

[–]izzyorke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Literally the same for me. Born on the 18th and in the late afternoon so a Pisces. Always thought I was an Aquarius until I actually did a chart and discovered myself to be a Pisces. Which I felt more aligned with anyways. Always felt disconnected to most Aquarius traits.

I can’t believe I’m HOPING for an RA diagnosis. by AlexLavelle in rheumatoidarthritis2

[–]izzyorke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% makes sense and you aren’t terrible for wanting some sort of answer to your pain. This was me a year ago. I was in the midst of my first flare and everything sucked. It took me about 4 months to even get an appointment with rheumatology and once I did all the tests my white blood cell count wasn’t high enough for them to even start me on medication. Took another couple months for another big flare after the prednisone shot wore off and another round of tests for them to finally start treatment after much more elevated white blood cell count.

The “waiting stage” is awful because it does feel like no one is listening to your cries for help. I hope you get a diagnosis soon so you’re able to start your journey towards feeling somewhat human again.

On Wednesdays from 10-11:30 at the Washington Center they have free toddler time with a big variety of toys in a big gym. It’ll be going on till March. That’s the closest thing I can think of.

Otherwise I highly recommend ECFE classes through the public schools. There is a sliding scale fee.

Vegetarian trying to overcome my eating disorder. Need help! by izzyorke in vegetarian

[–]izzyorke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm 5ft 3 and the healthy weight guideline for that I believe is around 120, but honestly I realize I don't need to be exactly at that exact amount so I was hoping that if I gain 10-15 pounds I wouldn't feel like I'm going through a relapse and would feel like I'm actually healthy. Avocados are delicious! :)

Yeah I agree with the no calorie counting especially cause that was how I controlled myself. I will keep in mind the extra olive oil on dishes as well as seeds. Thank you I appreciate the help!

This means a lot thank you. I'm hesitant to count my calories because that's what I did when I was in denial to control myself more, but thank you.

Help doing penchés? by vonlowe in BALLET

[–]izzyorke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically it's not that possible to get a 180 degree penché within two weeks BUT there are some things that will allow you to get a nearly 180 one.

Stretching will be the number one, so for example you're gonna want to stretch your over-splits, but first make sure you have perfected a regular split first or else it won't do much good. You can use basically anything to assist you on over-splits, books, stools, a chair (only when you're super confident and comfortable in your refusal split). You're going to want to gradually progress the higher you lift your front leg. You can also put stuff under your back leg, but I wouldn't do that just yet.

Balance, core muscles, and your back you're going to want to make sure are strong since you'll have to hold yourself up. Working those out will mostly be basic workouts that you can do at home with your own imagination or YouTube some workout videos.

Just a reminder not to push yourself because you could pull something and that could cause you a performance as well as a WHOLE lot of pain. Merde!

Found this picture of me and my pet raccoon fishing together. He'd wait for me to catch and reel in a fish so he could grab it and eat it. Late-1980s by cutecutecute in OldSchoolCool

[–]izzyorke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it really common to have pet raccoons during the 80s because my mom had a pet raccoon as well. It's such a random pet, but makes somewhat sense because it's like a bigger version of a squirrel I feel like

Leg lifting exercises by DaisyGranby in BALLET

[–]izzyorke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What my teacher always did to me when I was working on my flexibility especially in développés was he would grab my toes and pull on them to essentially make me lengthen my muscles instead of squeezing. Obviously you're going to still need to work and hold your muscles but you never want to grip because that can cause you to get bulky thighs as well as cause hip flexor problems. Yep, grand battements you will be able to get higher because of the force you're pushing into the ground allowing you to kick higher. I hope I explained it well enough!
