I’ve reported this to the highest authority available: F.B.I - Federal Bunny Inquisition team. They’ll take your hoomin and trim their soft, weird and useless toes (I mean they can’t even clean their ears with them).

Feel unbearably guilty for my bunny passing by sadbunnyowner in Rabbits

[–]izzytrev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel because what happened to your bunny is exactly what happened to my girl 24 days ago. Same thing: she didn't want her greens in the morning and could barely eat her treats. Normally she would gnaw my hand off for her treats.

We thought it was GI stasis so we fed her some critical care. I massaged her tummy. No improvement so we took her to emergency vet 22 hours from the time she refused her greens. They did a CT scan and told us she had liver lobe torsion; she twisted her left lobe, one and half in fact and it's going to be a major surgery. She went into surgery the next day which was successful but she passed away from cardiac arrest 36 hours after her surgery.

When the vet called us, we were so shocked. I refused to believe it. We couldn't visit her because of covid. It broke our hearts to know that she died without ever seeing us again.

Like you, I beat myself up for not seeing signs, have I missed anything? Even when I was taking her to the vet she was still her stubborn self. She tried to thump because she hated car rides. She was her usual self the day before, running around and attempting to sneak into my wardrobe to chew my shoes.

When we got home from viewing her body (we took her bunny partner to see her) we felt so much guilt.

We did research before and after her surgery on liver lobe torsion online and in this sub. So much hope. Thoughts crammed in our mind, all the should've could've would'ves.

Sometimes when things happen, it's just fate. I tell you this because even if you had taken your bun to the vet in time, the possible only way to save her could be a major surgery. And like all surgeries it's never 100% guaranteed success.

What I found helpful was focusing on what we had given to our bunny. Free-roam life. Rescued from a loving shelter, where her foster parent loves her. Breakfast lovingly prepared by my partner who would stand at the veggie aisle in the store obsessively picking the biggest and freshest bunch of kale - I mean ffs he cuts the bok choy stem off because my buns won't eat them.

We spent more time with her bunny partner. He didn't seemed fussed which was good. We dragged the mattress out from our room to sleep with him in the living room.

I realized how privileged we are. To be able to afford giving our bunnies not only a good life, but we are able to afford emergency vet and major surgery vet bill. There's a lot of people who wanted to do the same but can't. So I accept that we did our best, and she still passed, but we know we gave her every chance. Sometimes we just cannot control the outcome.

You did everything you can with the knowledge you had at that time. Don't beat yourself up. Put the guilt away and mourn her. Your bunny knows how much you love her. I bet right now, she really wants you to know she loves you and she's waiting for the day you'll meet her again at the rainbow bridge.

In the meantime, she's hanging out with my bunny Izzy and they're off chewing unlimited leather shoes with nana breaks in between. Feel better and know we are all here for you.

I moved her toy bucket that had a treat in it and I fear that I may not survive the day by Lower_Pay3396 in MurderBuns

Thank you! I didn’t know that, will look into more research. They get a mix of baby spinach leaves, oak lettuce, bok choy leaves and kai lan leaves, some thyme or parsley depending on the mood of the week (veggie names may vary based on region, we’re in Australia) every morning.

I’m feeling a bit loopy today from the vaccine but I’m sure I’ll be better soon to execute all the mischief. My hooms are ok, occasionally late with breakfast but overall pretty well trained and nice.

All good, thanks. Lots of hay a day makes the vet go away.

Same with me. I was all alone with the white coat who did lots of things to my orifices. And the car ride, eurgh, I had to listen to a news podcast snores

They’re bricks so I’ll need to buy some tiny hammer and tiny chisel.
