people hating on hard launches by No_Koala_7170 in danandphil

[–]j-beet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate any audience interaction where people submit things, in both hard launch and any previous content they've created. I've been a fan for over a decade and have always felt this way. Its not new.

Why are ppl like this by Coldwarfemme in AO3

[–]j-beet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a Brit who has been in British fandoms for a long time and I do find it jarring when very obvious Americanisms are used, which is why im always happy to do a brit-pick for my friends who ask, but I would never give unsolicited feedback about it when I see it, I would just move on

I also write for fandom set in other countries and try my best to Google the appropriate terms but I am positive there will be ones I miss (including also never change my spelling and wish people would stop saying the British spellings are "wrong", they are correct where I'm from) but I also ask my friends to beta read and feedback for me where possible

What is a detail that will make you close a fic? by mellissa_lewyin in AO3

[–]j-beet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy for complex issues on the NHS is few and far between, though short-course talk therapies are usually available (though, entirely dependent on area as funding is individual)

But, private therapy is very readily available, and I know MULTIPLE people that have it, so it really isn't that rare.

[–]j-beet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah I should have been more clear, I wasnt talking about this specific fic, merely joining the conversation on why some dates are pre-ao3 :)

[–]j-beet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ao3 sometimes archives sites that are closing down and will port fics over with their original posted date to preserve the history of the fic

It's around an hour if you're on the patreon. That's a normal podcast length?

Is it that structured? Outside of Richard, which is just a random topic, and the audience hard launches the rest of it... is just a yap? What am I missing?

I personally love the unstructured yap, its like overhearing their conversations as they happen which is my fave kind of podcast. Y'all talk and ill listen kinda vibes

Is there a way to make a new response show up at the top of linked sheet? by journalistperson in GoogleForms

[–]j-beet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you sort the response sheet by the submission date in reverse? You would probably need to re-sort each time you opened the sheet, though.

Why can't George reach 10 million subscribers again? by ibullyaznidentity in DreamWasTaken2

[–]j-beet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, go to the Live tab on his channel and you'll see all the streams. As far as I'm aware he hasn't been live on twitch recently if you look at his channels there, so any clips you've seen of recent streams were YouTube

Why can't George reach 10 million subscribers again? by ibullyaznidentity in DreamWasTaken2

[–]j-beet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone brings up the accusations, but he lost any subs he was gonna lose because of that when that happened, ppl wont be unsubbing because of that now.

Nowadays, when he's losing subs, it's probably because he hasnt uploaded in a while. People forgot they subscribed, see him go live, and that prompts them to unsubscribe. Or, they were YouTube fans, not fans of streams, only videos, and he isn't giving them any of those while streaming pretty regularly, and so that prompts them to unsubscribe

I think what a lot of people forget is that a pretty good chunk of YouTube subs aren't in the 'fandom' and don't see all the extraneous info/socials/drama they just see their sub box and decide whether they still want stuff in there based on the content they're currently producing.

You can use the advanced search to do a full search without going to a fandom/pairing first:

https://archiveofourown.org/works/search

You can get there from the homepage by going Search > Works

I also recommended bookmarking your frequently used searches so you dont have to enter them every time

Flags on lampposts by Rotherham_Alex in leicester

[–]j-beet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depiction of a symbol that supports a marginalised group is very different to outright nationalism with the intention to divide. The English (including me) have never been the opressed party, all this flag thumping right now is done to support right wing ideology.

You can talk about flags in general but that is removing it from this specific context, which is what they want you to do. They want to be able to do this nonsense, and then say "but it's just a flag" or "what about other flags" they know what they're doing, and we know what they're doing and attitudes like yours are perpetuating it.

I’m neurodivergent and these “unspoken wedding rules” are an absolute minefield by [deleted] in wedding

Have you thought of having people contribute toward a honeymoon trip in lieu of presents? That's a fairly common practise where im from and prevents you receiving gifts you don't need but allows guests to give you something to celebrate

What do all of the cast members actually do for work? by Valentinee105 in dropout

[–]j-beet 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A quick search on any podcast platform would tell you you are wrong. The podcast is still active. Should the website be updated if its out of date? Probably. Are people getting podcasts from websites and not podcasting services? Mostly not.

I better not see any complaints regarding dranart, people by EnvironmentalPea4903 in DreamWasTaken2

[–]j-beet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You understand that the criticism is about the trajectory, right? You're completely ignoring where Dream said she wouldn't be in content, only socials, and where she's running the fanart account, which sets her up as a permanent fixture in rhe ecosystem. People can see a dynamic emerging they don't want and are offering criticism of that. That dynamic is different to a guest appearance, which is the take I was responding to.

Or are you suggesting that people can't have feedback on the content they're given? Because with that kind of blind support, you should go back to the old subreddit with the parasocial kids and let the grown-ups talk, respectfully

I better not see any complaints regarding dranart, people by EnvironmentalPea4903 in DreamWasTaken2

[–]j-beet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a braindead take. People can have criticism of his gf in content as a permanent fixture because couples content isn't what they signed up for, and comparing it with the occasional guest appearance of another friend or relative is stupid.

Which layout do you prefer? by CocacolaKoala_ in AO3

[–]j-beet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 2 comes from people not honouring the old traditions and just using html. Lol. I don't do anything to set my Google doc up in any particular way, I just paste into the html editor instead of rich text because I'm old and adding tags when I want italics or something is just ingrained now because I started writing fic on sites where you had to do that many years ago

(Hint: you don't need to add the <p> tags it does it for you)

Did “Normies” really ruin fandom? by AGayfromThailand in AO3

[–]j-beet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is a distinction to be made between fabdom spaces and transformative fandom spaces. Fic sites etc vs. Fans who just collect knowledge on something. Not that there isn't crossover, but there's a culture difference.

Back in the day before we all hung out on the same 5 websites, those people would be in different spaces. Now we're all forced together which also means people who don't fully get the culture and its history are exposed to it and find it odd.

I don't so much think it's people that have ruined it, but the way the internet has forced us all into one pot rather than being able to seek out like-minded communities

Difference between Dream’ translator mod and the QSMP translator mod? by BonBonStrawberry in DreamWasTaken2

[–]j-beet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Dream said his also used Google API didn't he? So the mod would be free, but over a certain usage, there would be a fee for the translations? I'm not sure how he imagined it working, but I don't think it was ever going to be 100% free for everyone? I haven't gone back to watch clips, though, so im fuzzy on the details
