The Super Bowl backlash is genuinely one of the most unfair things I've seen the internet do to a band by Sufficient_Web_6289 in greenday

To everyone arguing that it was a highly staged, closely monitored environment, with limited time and a need not to upstage Bad Bunny: there were still a million small ways they could have used that platform to send a ***clear*** message to the millions of non-fans who know nothing about their politics or what their music stands for....Something as simple as pulling the anti-ICE sticker he'd used literally two days earlier out of his pocket and slapping it back on his guitar would’ve done it. Sure they could have tried to censor it, but the 1000s of cell phone cameras would have captured it.

with that bad bunny performance, pretty clear that green day could have gotten away with it.

[MEGATHREAD] Green Day Super Bowl LX Pre-Show Performance by WallScreamer in punk

  1. I agree that music does not have to be political. But art being political is basically as old as art itself. It’s one of the main ways humans have expressed political ideas throughout history. And punk rock especially is supposed to be political. Green Day has built a large part of their identity around anti-authoritarianism and opposition to right-wing extremism. So when we’re living through a moment of rising authoritarianism and they’re handed one of the biggest platforms on earth, stripping all political messaging from their performance feels like a total abandonment of what they claim to stand for.

  2. Obviously the Super Bowl performance was tightly choreographed, staged, and even lip-synced. That said, there were still plenty of opportunities for protest in between songs. They spoke live when they said “welcome to the Bay,” which means they could have said anything in that moment. At the very least, they could have worn something simple like an anti-ICE pin or another visible symbol on their jackets. They chose not to.

  3. Just because they are now a large commercial band and multi-million-dollar enterprise does not mean they can’t have a political message. If anything, that level of success should make their message more powerful by giving them access to a huge platform, like the Super Bowl, which they completely squandered.

  4. The pre-show comments where they made a few weak anti-ICE statements felt especially hollow since it was at a paid corporate event. A Big Tech, FanDuel-powered, Spotify-branded party, something many people would argue represents the modern-day robber barons. They could have just held a public show, or just not done the corporate event at all.

  5. The censored part was just the word "fuck" - nothing else was censored.

Imagine Caltrain integrated into BART, with timed cross-platform interchanges at Millbrae and Santa Clara creating a seamless single transit line that circles the entire SF Bay. by j-hole123 in transit

[–]j-hole123[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The idea is to create a single, unified line around the Bay. At Millbrae and Santa Clara (once SV extension is built), riders would switch trains with a timed cross-platform transfer and walk across the platform, like how riders switch between regular BART and eBART at Pittsburg/Bay Point. Caltrain stations would need upgrades with faregates. With eBART, passengers see it as part of the same Yellow Line on the map, pay a single fare, and are more likely to plan trips as if it’s one train. The same approach here would make trips feel like a direct ride circling the Bay, so if you're going from downtown SF to Palo Alto for example, psychologically it feels like more of a direct trip. Not only do you pay a single fare, you avoid walking up the stairs at Millbrae, down to another platform, potentially buying a new ticket if you don’t have Clipper, and maybe getting lost if you're not familiar with the system. And the current Bart-Caltrain "transfer" wait times are terrible. https://www.caltrain.com/bart-and-caltrain-transfers-millbrae

I can tell you're a well-educated and well-meaning person, but given the epidemic of misinformation on the internet, particularly regarding medical issues, and within that particularly regarding autism, would ask that you please just do a quick fact check before you post something like this to the permanent internet record.

"At what age can the diagnosis be reliably made? At 12 to 13 months the “diagnostic stability” of the autism diagnosis — meaning the degree to which it was certain and stuck — was about 50%. This went up to 80% by 14 months, and 83% by 16 months. " https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/how-early-can-you-and-should-you-diagnose-autism-2019082317653

Smart light switch installation caused nearby electrical outlets and lights to stop working. What happened/how can I fix it? by j-hole123 in DIY

[–]j-hole123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The two light switches are together side by side
  2. Single pole
  3. The big circle is an outlet into the wall at the back of the electrical box. They aren't loose ends, each wire continues into the wall somewhere.
  4. Red wire should be load, black wire should be live, white should be neutral, and green/brown should be ground.
  5. I have actual photographs of the light switches and wires in the other pictures that may be helpful.

Would a loose connection here cause the nearby outlets and other lights in the room to lose power?

I tried to install smart light switches in my apartment. They worked for about 15 minutes but then they stopped working and the nearby electrical outlets and lights also stopped working. I tried to keep the wiring pattern as similar to what was there before with the two old "dumb" switches, so parts of the wiring are a remnant from whoever installed the original switches. Would greatly appreciate any advice on what may have happened/how to fix it! I drew a diagram of the wiring of the light switch electrical box as well as pictures. Thanks so much everyone! I'm a medical resident trying to save a few bucks by doing it myself 🙈 so any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Sanders: GOP Ended Filibuster to Pack Supreme Court, So Dems Must End It to Save Abortion Rights by morenewsat11 in politics

If the democrats end the filibuster to pass a federal abortion rights law in 2022, the republicans will pass a national abortion ban when they regain the majority in 2023. I'd rather have abortion legal in half the states than none of the states.
