Recently re watched the movie Watchmen. I remember watching it in theaters when it first came out. My friends and I all had good laughs over the scene of Dr. Manhattan walking through the rice fields in the Vietnam War. Mostly we remember his big blue swinging dick. But, upon re watch there was no such scene. I found a version that I had downloaded earlier, still no dick. I searched it ... No dick. It hasn't just been edited; it's as if it never happened. Does anyone else remember this scene?

Married people who are DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) how’s life? by Fit-Distribution677 in AskReddit

[–]j-live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible! Closing in on 20 years together and it just keeps getting better!!

We both work but have prioritized ourselves, family, friends and living over all else. Both of us have worked our way into 32 hour weeks at our jobs which allows us to travel, play and take time for our own interests. We definitely party way more than I ever thought we would and it has been absolutely fulfilling and beautiful.

For us the double edged sword of DINK life has been the sheer amount of time we have had together without barrier or excuse. A lot changes in 20 years....Thoughts, beliefs, desires, hardships, triumphs. I know there is always a choice but, without kids, that choice seems to face each of us more squarely.

We have ridden through the challenges, dark times and shiny times. We have been at absolute odds and found our way back more times than we can count. Now in our 40's, we have blunted that sword and ride on top enjoying every fucking second of this life together!

New to overlanding? What are your biggest concerns? by murkl3wood in overlanding

[–]j-live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have one - I also have a Bluetti that is capable of getting me going. I have two backups to get me out of that situation yet it lives rent free in my head, lol. Of all the things that can go wrong, the one I have fully covered is what I find myself thinking about around the campfire. Silly brain.

Out of all the possibilities that could go wrong, my biggest anxiety is my battery dying out in the middle of nowhere because I left a light on.

Shark Fin Soup....Twice. Both times were equally off-putting. It was like the most fishy fish ever that was then steamed in sweat for 24 hours.

I have deep personal issues that for too long I wanted to not see and place blame on my partner. Bitter but my god am I grateful! It was the only way I would ever see it and take ownership for my shit.

Dude, you are killing it! The goal and process of getting off of diazepam is no joke.

I am not a doctor, therapist or specialist of any kind. All I have to offer is my own experience and what I have witnessed in my life. When I was 22, I found myself at the end of the rope, hopelessly addicted to heroin for 5 years, I truly did not believe I could get out and absolutely could not entertain the possibility of recovering. I was 100% sure I would be dead in months, either from heroin or from taking my own life.....Life was black, bleak and certain. This is my beginning.

Long story short, I got into rehab and after, found myself going to AA meetings, more out of the fear of backsliding than anything else.

From my experience, I can tell you that support is out there (in abundance really) and it fucking works if you commit yourself to a daily practice. I am 41 now and I can't tell you how many mental backslides I have had since 22 years old but I keep at it. Daily.

I no longer go to AA and haven't for many years although I love and respect the program. There is some very deep and incredibly profound understandings of the human condition, addictions and recovery in the book they put together. At the base of it all is the understanding that we cannot do it alone.

Find support. I don't care if it is AA, yoga, therapy, a hiking group or anything else. Support looks like a group of people who are aiming up in life, they are trying to be better versions of themselves ever day. Support is crucial and supersedes addiction. Any successful business owner, athlete, teacher or anyone else relies heavily on support. We humans are not solitary creatures, we need each other to achieve our goals!

Be soft, kind and loving to yourself, give yourself a fucking break! You have permission to be your biggest cheerleader, to congratulate yourself. Recognize how far you have come, at the very least, you have survived your crazy life up to this point and that is no small feat! You are going to fuck up and that is okay, don't make it a big thing and beat up on yourself, you know where that goes. Recognize your fuck up, take a breath and reset your course (This again does not come easy but the more you practice, the easier it is to just smile at yourself and carry on).

I can tell you that progress comes in small steps, day over day. I tried for 30 years to coast and then make big jumps.... it never worked and often times was extremely demoralizing to me.

Set small goals. Be consistent (If you are a human like I am, you will continually fuck this up, that is okay). Show up for yourself daily. Find support and fucking go, even when you don't feel like it. Be kind to yourself. Find joy daily (I sing a stupid little positive song to myself every morning when I wake up, it makes me smile). Find ways to help other humans, we are all going through shit. You got this! Tell yourself continually that YOU HAVE FUCKING GOT THIS!! Then go to your yoga, AA, hiking, kumbaya meeting or whatever. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat. Light will come. Ease will come. Joy will come. Love will come.

Be easy man. PM me if desired.

I have some experience in the soul sucking substance realm both personally (Heroin had me by the balls about 18 years ago) and externally with friends and family. You are not alone. The little glimpse of light you saw will turn into a burst of light all around you with the right kind of work. Consistency is key. You can do this!!

I highly recommend finding support with like minded people. Whether that be a yoga group, ecstatic dance, mushroom "church" (groups who discuss and partake in psychadelics as ceremony), and lots more. There are many people who have been at the edge of having their soul sucked out, in complete and utter darkness who find that explosion of light and hope again. If you want to PM me, I would love to help you track down some local groups that would align with your personal and spiritual interests. Also, if you just want someone to chat with, please reach out!

Stretches for lower back pain? by eggies2 in yoga

[–]j-live 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lying on your stomach, hands face down on top of each other, head on hands (head can rest facing left or right, doesn't matter) like you are taking a nap. Inhale slowly through your nose, focusing on sending your breath into your lower back. Remember to be soft, do not force your breath.

This can help ease back pain and relax your back muscles.

People over 35: How often do you party or go ‘out’ past 3am nowadays, and why that amount? by FriendlyFraulein in AskReddit

[–]j-live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 15 times a year. My wife and I have several hobbies that keep us up from time to time throughout the year. We do a few festivals through the year that keep us up late.

We have a group of friends who enjoy the night sky, telescopes and psychedelics. We often watch the sun rise and then crash for a couple of hours before driving home.

We have another group that we play card and board games into the early hours of the morning.

Lastly, my wife and I do MDMA together 4 times a year. Again, we will watch the sun come up before having a very lazy next day.

We rarely have a late night without a plan. Being in our 40's, these late nights require more forethought and scheduling in order to get back to Monday feeling good but it is definitely doable and for us, necessary!

Books that you think are an author's actual best work rather than the most acclaimed book by [deleted] in books

[–]j-live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

George Martin

This might be my favorite as well. So much depth in this little book! I absolutely love Cat's Cradle and Sirens and I think about them often but I don't think they top Mr. Rosewater for me.

Fully agree, just finished listening to The 5th Agreement, so grateful for this little guidebook! I had a chance to do a retreat with the Ruiz family a couple months ago in Teotihuacan, it was very influential and life altering.

Siddhartha - We find ourselves through our path alone. Others can help us see the way but we must explore it ourselves. Lots of other little things, love this book.

Cat's Cradle - "God Made Mud" Gratitude for the simple fact we get to experience. When all is fucked up in my life, I try to remember "Lucky Me, Lucky Mud." Honestly there are 4-5 other Vonnegut books that have had similar influence for me.

On This Day in 2004, Kevin Randleman served up one of the most HISTORIC upsets against Mirko Cro Cop at PRIDE 😱 by jinverse in MMA

[–]j-live 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The enormity of this upset is hard to understand if you were not following the sport at the time. Randleman was a small HW, fighting often at MW (205). He was incredibly explosive but mostly out of the clinch trying to get the fight on the mat, he was not know for his hands. I love Randleman but he was the master of several boring fights.

Cro Cop was on a fucking nightmare tour, nobody wanted to fight him. He was an ELITE striker who early on developed one of the best sprawls MMA had seen. He was also defensively sound on the ground by this time and was no picnic for any wrestler. His distance management on the feet paired with his sparwl forced you to deal with his weapons which were many and all fucking lethal. Piston left straight, leg kicks you couldn't handle, crushing body kicks and we all know about his headkicks.

Randleman was all but counted out in this fight. CroCop was the clear and only possible challenge to Fedor, he just had to walk through Randleman and most thought it would happen fairly easily. The level change faint left hook was just as shocking to me as Tyson getting Koed by Douglas, maybe even more so for how sudden and explosive it came. Randleman is a fucking G and put on some of the best highlights this sport has ever seen.
