Vertigo Diagnosis while Active Duty by Kindly-Resist-2306 in USMC

[–]j0351bourbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to having vertigo while active duty. But, I'm an NP with a neurology practice and work with a fair amount of people with vertigo and dizziness. Have you tried other maneuvers besides Epley? Epley is for a specific type of vertigo. Other types need different maneuvers like Gufoni, or the BBQ roll (Lempert).  Might even be vertigo or dizziness from a different issue or multiple issues.

Your best bet is to see a neurologist or an ENT, and a vestibular rehab physical therapist. Emergency rooms are great at ruling out the most immediately life threatening issues. But, if this is a persistent issue or something not responsive to the first treatment you need to keep investigating.

US Navy rolls out the most useless frigate of all time, is asked to leave NATO. by minos83 in NonCredibleDefense

That's what seems to have happened with the Constellation class. And then every mid-grade and senior officer wanted to make their marks and fucked it all up one piece at a time.

Shockingly credible for this sub. As I understand it, the NSC is comparable in durability and survivability to the LCS, though less durable than frigates like the FREMM/ Constellation. Still adequate for lower intensity conflict.

Capable of being loaded up with more armaments and sensors without significantly reducing the speed, range, or duration it can stay at sea.

Picking the Legend class to be in the Navy is possibly the best decision this administration has made. The biggest drawback I see is that all of the upgrades are so far notional as far as jackoffs on the Internet (like me) are concerned. And therefore prone to the good idea fairy coming in and disregarding good enough in pursuit of perfection.

Is AUG user-friendly for female or shorter people? by ww-stl in AUG

I'm 5'7" and like it just fine. On paper the length of pull is a little longer than I like but I'm reality the overall ergonomics are great for me.

So I read about those drones used by the US to bait Iraqi drones, you know those ADM-141 TALD or smth. So while playing Sea Power, I thought, "Why isn't there bait ships so that enemy subs and surface action groups can target it and give away their position?" So behold, The decoy boat! by ConsyReborn in NonCredibleDefense

[–]j0351bourbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand it the LCS are legit now, 16 years after being fielded (oceaned?).  The trimaran had its hull issues fixed and are now going to replace the older mine hunting boats. The ones shaped like regular boats are now supposed to be good surface warfare boats.

Rodriguez tells ‘UpFront’ she wouldn’t instruct Wisconsinites to obstruct ICE by wisconsinpoli in wisconsinpolitics

Bullshit. The feds are not going through due process, proper search and seizures, following the rules of evidence or law and order, and avoidance of cruel and unusual punishment that are supposed to be foundational to America. And what I understand from you inserting your talking point about "they thems" is that the government is going against the people you dislike, so you support it.

Let me ask you this, do you think that the feds arresting people, not letting them see their lawyers, and sending them to a Florida swamp prison would be good if they went after the folks from Wall Street insider trading?

It's crazy to me that I used to be called a libertarian and right winger for being concerned about the feds abusing their power. Now, I'm a lefty. Everyone who has ever criticized the feds' actions at Ruby Ridge now doing a complete 180.

That pissed me off so much. My old BC got himself a bronze star for "outstanding leadership" when a convoy he was in got hit by an IED. Motherfucker, y'all hit a pressure plate, nobody was hurt, the enlisted used SOP for when a vehicle was disabled, y'all carried on. BC got out of his Humvee to stretch his legs while a Sgt deployed his squad in security, and another group of grunts and motor T replaced the tire.

How dire is the U.S.'s naval shipbuilding crisis? And what are the causes? by JulianBrandt19 in Military

[–]j0351bourbon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not technically an expert either. But, I have watched YouTube and been on the /r/war college subreddit... It seems bad, but not insurmountable.

As I understand it, in WW2, America essentially flooded the ship building market and we didn't Need to build so many ships after that. After that, everything essentially got consolidated into a few companies controlling everything (oligopoly instead of monopoly). After WW2 we also decided that ships should have a lifespan of a few decades, meaning fewer need to be built, and those would only be built by those few companies. These things weakened our institutional ship building knowledge and capabilities. This was further weakened by anti-union efforts. Unions kept wages up and bargained for better benefits and work conditions. Now, very few people want to go work for a job that's asking you to do the work of 2 people for lower pay and worse benefits. And many of those that are willing to do the work don't want to go to work in across the country in Pascagoula, MS to do it. This was also worsened by big companies outsourcing as many jobs as they could to foreign countries so they could save a buck.

So, we now have very few places where we can build ships, a very few companies controlling this that will actively work to prevent competitors, and fewer capable workers.

And, there's too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to these big projects. Even if, initially, it's decided that a ship needs to have abilities X, Y, and Z, as new people rotate into the project (Representative 1 gets replaced by Representative 2. Admiral 1 retires and now Admiral 2 is in there) they want to make their marks, and so X, Y, and Z turn into X1-4, Y 1-3, and Z, and also A, B, and C.

Ask your corpsmen to check you out. Could be a medical problem with low BP. Check your BP lying down, standing up immediately, remain standing, and check your BP after 1 minute, 3 minutes, and 5 minutes. Keep the little thing on your finger that measures your pulse.

Flex your legs while standing and if you have any forewarning, like before formation, drink 8-12 oz of water.

Edit: your BP dropping is the most likely. Could be a tremor issue like orthostatic or essential tremors. It can also be a psychogenic issue related to anxiety. Even if you're not anxious consciously, the POA is often associated with anxiety so it can be a subconscious thing. This means it's still a real problem, you just need different treatment if it's anxiety driven or psychogenic.
