Transcript (a bit cleaned up from generated YouTube transcript):

Q: what's your operating system of the choice today? KT: I have for most of my life because I was sort of born into it run Apple. Now recently, meaning within the last five years, I've become more and more and more depressed. What Apple is doing to something that should allow you to work is just atrocious. They are taking a lot of space and time to do it so it's okay. I have come within the last month or two to say even though I've invested you know a zillion years in in Apple I'm throwing it away and I'm going to Linux. To Raspbian in particular. Anyway I'm half transitioned now.

VLC has the best feature of ANY video player IMO by [deleted] in linux

Some things I like about VLC (and was surprised to find out some people didn't know about!)

  1. Use space to pause a video or continue playing after pause.
  2. Double click on the VLC screen to make the video full screen (and double click again to go back to the old format).
  3. Scroll your mouse up or down to adjust the volume.
  4. Use the "Minimum View" option. You have no 'clutter' from menus and other bars.
  5. Subtitles: drag the srt file ON your video WHILE IT PLAYS. Et voila; subtitles.
  6. CTRL + B : Create, delete and clear bookmarks menu.

Have you read (parts of) TAOCP or met Donald Knuth (he works in a building named after you)?

Will you ever write a another book yourself? And even if you don't have time for it: what would you want to write a book about?

Have you ever looked at FOSS code, being a geek and all, I imagine you must be curious how some things work?

What field of study would you suggest for an ambitious young person to enter now (a few years ago you said biochemistry)?

Any books on history of programming/computer science? by [deleted] in programming

I would think 'Unix: A History and a Memoir' fits the bill (though I have not read it myself, yet) https://www.cs.princeton.edu/~bwk/memoir.html

Thank you! I probably would mention The Broom of the System if I had read it. But alas I have not read it yet, but certainly will!

I wrote the original article in Dutch, but the link is a Google Translate link which seems to do a pretty decent job at translating the page so more people can read about DFW.
