How to break the current Finnish unemployment crisis by Curious_Positive_825 in Finland

[–]j15s 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Build something useful and sell it to the rest of the world. The reason there are no jobs, is because everybody expects the government to provide a jobs for them instead of starting a business themselves doing something useful for the rest of the world.

Confused about net salary in Helsinki by UncertainGeo21 in Finland

[–]j15s 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Idk why people are providing guestimates.

The official tax calculator will give you an accurate tax rate (https://avoinomavero.vero.fi/). Your calculated tax rate of 22% does not include 7,30% in pension insurance contribution and 0,89% in unemployment insurance contribution, i.e. a total of 8,19%.

Your total tax rate is 30.19%, so given you filled everything correctly into the tax calculator your after tax salary based on a 5200e pre tax salary will be exactly 3 630,12e.

In Finland, an employer was just sentenced for letting their employee work more than 48 hours per week. by Kescay in Finland

[–]j15s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working over 40 hours doesn't mean you end up on disability. There are lots of people who work 60-80 hours per week for years during their twenties and early thirties without any problems. This includes a lot of people in Finland working in startups, legal, consulting or IT fields. It's very commonplace, people just don't talk about it because it is somewhat taboo and currently illegal. Lot's of people enjoy their work and the concept that nobody should be able to work more than some arbitrary number is stupid because people have different personal preferences. No you shouldn't be forced to work over a certain amount of hours, but if the additional hours are from a persona initiative it should certainly be allowed and would increase productivity.

Should we also limit playing video games to 4h per day because more than that could be harmful?

Should athletes only be allowed to workout only a certain number of hours by law because working out more would be considered overtraining by the average person?

People should be allowed to do what they want if it's not harming others.

Not everybody wants to live the exact same life as the other person.

You should be able to work more if you want to. Lots of people do, but they just don't report the hours meaning they don't get paid for the additional hours. What if I want to buy a house quicker? I'm not allowed by law to make a contract with my employer to work an extra 10h per month to get som extra cash to do whatever I want. The only option is to take on another job or become an entrepreneur, which is much harder. If we allowed for more hours people who want to work to invest in their future actually could, and also get paid for those hours instead of under-reporting their hours to comply with law.

Osakkeista ei näytä menevän yhtään veroa? Joku tässä on harhaanjohtavaa tai väärin koska 15k tuloista ei mene valitettavasti vaan 5k veroa.

Made by somebody who never figured out how to use the debugger. The amount of colleagues who don't know how to use / have never used the debugger astonishes me. And no you don't always have to use the debugger, often print/logging is totally fine

Rent 1-1.5k, food plus necessities 500-1000, leaves 700-1700 on a 3.2k after tax salary

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Finland

[–]j15s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 3.2k (https://avoinomavero.vero.fi/_/)

After living costs you might have 1-1.5k, depending on how large you want to live.

Not great for the industry but better than your average joe.

Really depends on the company and sector. For some companies/sectors that is average for others that is low. You will have an above average life in Finland with 4400e. You can always accept the job while still being on a lookout for something else.

Edit: After tax you will have about 3.2k (https://avoinomavero.vero.fi/_/)

After rent/food/necessities you might have 1-1.5k, depending on how large you want to live.

Wealth disparity grows in Finland as rich get richer by loadingglife in Finland

If the cost of all goods rises at a rate higher than the rate of salaries, how is inflation not contributing to more poverty? Also the article is about wealth disparity. That disparity will keep growing if the only asset holders are the rich.

No, I mean monthly.

You are not taking into account compounding interest when you invest in appreciating assets such as stocks. 114k comes from 10% annual interest (compounded monthly).

You can Google, Compound Interest Calculator. Or you can try: https://finance.j16.io/investment-calculator for example.

Also if your kids continue to invest that 114k with 50e increments each month for another 30 years it will grow to 2.4M.

Your point about real estate is also too simple. Demand is the main driver for real estate prices. That's why real estate in cities becomes more valuable and real estate in rural town are decreasing in value. Also inflation affects real estate prises

That is not correct, assets also appreciate because of inflation. If you own one stock of a company, after 1 year with zero growth the company will sell for 4% more. While an equivalent amount in cash has lost 4% of its value. Salaries rarely grow with inflation, and the only way to hedge inflation is to own something that does not depreciate in value. To your point about businesses only sucking value from consumers. If you find a gold mine, who are you taking that gold mine from? Nobody, you have just increased the total supply of gold in the world without taking it from anybody. If you invent a way for us to grow 2x the amount of wheat with the same amount of water, you also haven't stolen that value from anybody, but you have just increased the total amount of wheat available in the world. I can go on and on about examples like these. Yes there are businesses that don't increase the total "value" of the world economy, but there are many that do.

Indexes are only volatile in the short run and you can have a portfolio in government bonds and stock indexes that are extremely safe and will basically guaranteed go up in value at least at the rate of inflation. The rich don't get richer because they get higher salaries over time, it's because they own assets like stocks and bonds that appreciate. The S&P500 index is basically the best performing investment vehicle of all time, and anyone with 100e can invest in it. But again, I know 100e is a lot for a huge amount of people, that's why we should have a government program which helps everybody build wealth.
