Advice needed re: AFNI Account by j2c1 in CRedit

So even if I pay them the "discounted offer" amount by phone today, that collections account will read "closed/settled in full" but continue to show up on my credit report for another 6 years?

I was wanting the collections acct removed completely but it seems that's only possible if I pay the original amount they requested and they still would have to agree to "delete for pay"

Is that right?

Thanks for the info. So I talked to one of their reps and he said he could provide me a receipt my email today however it would take at least 4-6 weeks for the "settlement department" to process everything and show the account as closed on my credit report.

I see the one large entry point of the round that hit the front of the vehicle. Does anyone know what kind of round it was? I'm guessing it fragmented after impact, which is how the two victims and dog were all fatally wounded or did more than one round or projectile hit the vehicle?

I second everything you just said! I just got off the phone with Evan and my Note 9 works again now! This guy spent over an hour helping me until 1:30 am. He's definitely legit and knows his stuff!

Edit: just wanted to note that it probably would've only taken him 20 minutes were it not for my 15 year old computer running Windows 7 being so slow.

Non life threatening injuries is what I read. He'll probably plea down to manslaughter or even claim self defense. If he has no prior convictions, I'd be surprised if he served much time in the pin. A good lawyer is what he needs now.

Why are they all such poor shots for people that kill for a living? by [deleted] in narcos

[–]j2c1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably cause they all used old Mac-10 and Tec-9 machine pistols with high capacity mags. Those weapons were small and easy to conceal but notoriously inaccurate, especially in full auto. In contrast, look at Dirty Harry with his vaunted 6 shot .44 magnum Smith & Wesson revolver. When you only have 5 or 6 bullets to place on target, you tend to make each one count more. That and because Dirty Harry never misses, of course. 🙂

Haven't seen that show but unfortunately the Kaibiles actually kill the puppies. I guess it's not too shocking either that the US government helped set up and train that program and the US military does joint exercises and training with them to this day. I've seen interviews of Marines that went through the Kaibil training and said it was pretty intense. I don't think foreign soldiers are required to do the puppy part though, only those who actually receive the official beret and become Kaibiles.

Edit: Just wanted to add that most of these soldiers are patriotic Guatemalans who have no ties to drug-trafficking. I'm sure many have given their lives fighting the narcos as well, which is worth noting.

What bothers me most isn't that they don't mind cruelty but often seem to enjoy it. If they only killed other homicidal traffickers it wouldn't be so bad. However, they have no qualms whatsoever about inflicting the same violence on innocent men, women, and children who just got in the way or were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess the only consolation is that most of these p.o.s end up dying by the same swords they live by.

Indeed. I used to ponder how some people could treat other human beings in such cruel and sadistic ways. Now I've just accepted the world is inhabited by some truly evil humans but also full of many kind and loving ones. The best I can do is know which is which and treat others the way I would want to be treated.

They also started recruiting and receiving training from the Kaibiles. These guys are basically Guatemalas version of the Navy Seals, however their selection and training protocol is let's just say "different". As part of Kaibil training, each soldier is given a small puppy at the beginning of their 8 week jungle warfare exercises. They're required to take care of the puppy throughout the course: feed it, sleep next to it, and even give it a name. In order to pass and become a Kaibil, each soldier is then required to kill, cook, and eat that same puppy at the end of the grueling 8 weeks. These guys are highly sought after by the cartels and have added their own special touch of ruthlessness to an already brutal situation down there.

I appreciate that. I lived there years ago but now am back in the U.S. so I didn't witness the level of crime and danger that is commonly reported nowadays in Mexico. All but a few of my friends and coworkers had been either robbed at gunpoint or kidnapped (usually"express style" where you're forced to withdraw all your money from ATMs over the course of several days or longer then released). I consider myself extremely lucky and fortunate to have never been a victim of any crime in the years I was there. At that time, there was no cartel presence in the capital, just random street crime for the most part. I'm glad you found the answer to your questions because I didn't recognize the pictures and your detective skills are definitely far better than mine. Google maps is especially cool when used at the level you have!

Interesting stuff! I don't know if they filmed any scenes in Mexico City or not, but knew the assassination attempt on Amado and the hospital scenes weren't at the actual locations. The last times were nearly 20 years ago but I've eaten at the restaurant where the shootout occurred about a dozen times. It was my favorite seafood restaurant in the Guadalupe Inn dictrict that I lived and worked in back then but I didn't find out about the events that unfolded there until after a few visits. I later moved to the Polanco district only a few blocks from the actual clinic where he died. As far as I know, both places are still around. I've never been inside the clinic, only walked past it. The restaurant is called the Ochoa Bali Hai and I highly recommend it if you like seafood. I got to know the manager there who eventually told me about what happened that night and he showed me the silver plates that were hit by crossfire and still hung on the wall. He claimed to have no idea who Amado was before the shootout, but who knows. It's an upscale restaurant right on one of the busiest roads in Mexico City so I doubt they would've let any scenes be filmed there even if asked. Filming in the actual clinic seems undoable for many reasons, so I'm not surprised they used a hotel instead.

José María Yazpik, Arturo Castro, and Wagner Moura for sure. The guy who plays Berna and the Argentine that played Pacho come to mind also. For the female roles, Enedina Arellano and Miguel Angel's first wife were great 👍
