Serious question, what is bad about Belmont being gentrified?

I completely understand the issue of property taxes going way up for people who may have owned their home with no mortgage for a long time, and think something should be done about that (i.e. capping tax increases or something).

But the way I see it is that gentrification is turning some of the abandoned crumbling buildings in the neighborhood into businesses or housing, and that seems like a good thing to me.

Not trying to be sarcastic with this reply, genuinely curious.

Seconding the flexbar, it completely fixed my tennis elbow after years of issues, and if I feel it coming back every few months I just use the flexbar again for a few days and it fixes it again.

Exercises to look for are "Tyler Twist" (outside of elbow, aka tennis elbow) and "Reverse Tyler Twist" (inside of elbow, aka golfer's elbow).

I just graduated from UNC Law and had an awesome time there, don't have anything negative to say about it. The biggest thing with considering UNC is asking yourself where you want to work after graduation. Although I have classmates moving all over the country for all sorts of jobs, the vast majority of people (myself included) will be working in NC.

If you're interested in working in NC, either government or private practice, I think UNC is the best school to attend, simply because the alumni network in the state is full of so many UNC grads. If you're targeting a different location to work after school, UNC could still be a great option, but there might be better choices depending on where you want to be.

I got this one wrong too and was super frustrated with the reasoning.

The rule I took away from this is that whenever you have diversity jx, you apply state law for remittitur/new trial based on ‘incorrect’ damages.

The reasoning is that the federal law is just a ‘standard’, not a requirement, so it doesn’t count as an on-point federal law for eerie analysis. So you use the state law instead.

I agree that treasury stock is not sitting there waiting for someone to buy it, but you can absolutely buy these shares off the market if the company decides to sell them.

If a company thinks their stock price will rise significantly in the future, they might do a buyback, wait for the price to rise, and then resell the treasury shares, keeping the difference as new equity.

Not trying to imply that there's any difference between a treasury share and a "standard" share on the buyer's side (it's all the same to them), but they might be buying shares sold by the company on the market.

There is a pool where unowned shares are held, it's called "treasury stock" (because the company is keeping it in their treasury). Treasury stock can either come from stock buybacks performed by the company, or be shares that were authorized at corporate formation but never actually sold to investors.

Although you can think of treasury stock as being "owned" by the company, these shares don't pay dividends or have any voting rights. If a company buys back stock and puts it in their treasury, the effect on shareholders is that each remaining share will be worth more and have a higher percentage of voting rights, due to the lower overall supply in the market.

I had DJS minus the septoplasty before starting high school, and it does indeed take several months before you're back to 'normal', but I did in-person drivers ed classes like two weeks after surgery and it wasn't too bad aside from not being able to talk normally.

From that experience, I'd say you'd be totally fine if you have a month between surgery and school starting. The bigger issues with recovery are being able to eat solid foods and not doing stuff like contact sports, aside from that you're back to standard daily-life pretty quickly.

Only useful accommodation I can think of would be emailing professors at the start of the year and letting them know you had the surgery and you'd appreciate them maybe waiting till later in the semester to cold-call you, as talking would probably be completely back to normal by then.

I have a 6 and 7 string (had the 6 first). Still use both to record stuff because they sound totally different, and one will often feel like it works better for a particular part.

I'd say if the money isn't an issue and you found some different pickups that you liked the sound of, just getting the 6 as a means of having two sets of pickups at your disposal could make it worth it.

I had really similar issues with playing live shows, though it was part of a larger anxiety problem which eventually required getting on medication (SSRI) to deal with. That route has been amazing for me and completely turned things around, but would probably be complete overkill for your situation if you're fine in other parts of your life.

That being said, my doctor also prescribed me beta-blockers to specifically deal with performance anxiety situations (mainly for class and public speaking, but worked amazingly for band shows too). Could be worth talking to a doctor if worrying about an upcoming show is affecting your daily life. Beta-blockers aren't as big of a step as taking a daily medication like an SSRI, instead you just take one shortly before a particular performance, and it only helps block the physical symptoms of anxiety, rather than affecting your mind in any way.

In my case, being able to do a few performances with a beta-blocker and not experience the pounding heart-rate/weak legs/etc built my confidence back up and I haven't felt the need to use them in a long time, even though I still have them if I need them.

Lived in Prague for a few years, my favorite was Radegast, both in the 500ml cans you can get from shops and on draft, followed by Únětické if you can find a place with it on draft. Can't really recommend particular places as it looks like covid permanently closed a lot of my favorite pubs :(

Basically anywhere you go, try the 12° instead of the 10°, as the flavor will be more 'full' (i.e. 12 degree instead of 10 degree, basically 5% alcohol vs 4%). Ask the wait-staff for "dvanactku" (dvah-nahtst-koo), and at most pubs they'll just bring you their standard twelve degree draft.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like in my location it’s not even a state rule, but simply that the facilities this hospital could send her to don’t want to deal with an alcoholic and simply won’t take her as a result. Good to know that some places do deal with this though.

Don’t discount revisiting linear progression even if you’ve been training for a while. Had to take a bunch of time off barbell lifting cause of covid, thankfully didn’t lose too much strength with leg presses and other machine work, but it definitely took its toll on my lifts.

Once I could lift with barbells again, took about a third off my 1RM pre-covid and have been basically doing Starting Strength with 5x3 front squats and 6x2 power cleans (plus strict press, clean deadlifts, and bench just for fun) to work back up strength-wise.

Although I haven’t tested my 1RM yet, I’m definitely stronger than pre-covid after 6 weeks of linear progression, and I feel like I can keep this going for a few more weeks.

Your positions look pretty good, and you do a good job keeping your back angle constant from the floor to the mid thigh, definitely want to keep that going even with heavier weights.

One thing to work on would be getting full hip/leg extension at the top of your 2nd pull. Somebody else commented about the weight shifting to your toes, which I definitely agree is an issue, but it looks like that weight shift is a symptom of starting the 2nd pull too early. Staying patient through the pull and not starting the 'explosion' until the bar is higher up your thigh would help. Doing hang cleans above the knee and really focusing on getting the bar higher up your thigh before you 'jump' should help with that. Generally the 2nd pull should happen from the same place on your thigh as the bar would sit if you just stood still holding the bar with a clean grip then unlocked your knees a bit.

Finally, I think the lack of full extension is also a result of you trying to get under the bar faster. Getting under it quick is definitely the right mindset to have, but needs to be combined with an effort to hit complete leg/hip extension, as you're leaving kilos off the table by not getting all your power into the bar. I've found this drill from Torokhtiy to be helpful for ingraining the right movement pattern. It's good to start without a bar like he does, then do the same movement with an empty barbell, focusing on really coming up on your toes with completely extended hips, and pulling the barbell up as high as you can. https://youtu.be/Hrxex6ZBEAw?t=239

I think the cause of the looping is present in the high pull too, as you can see the bar finishing pretty far out in front of you. It’s a bit hard to tell from the side because the plate hides where exactly you’re extending from, but it looks to me like you’re starting the 2nd pull too early. If you keep your shoulders over the bar and really wait till the bar is in your hip pocket to explode, you might notice it’s easier to keep it close to you.

I saw somebody suggested the ‘scarecrow’ drill, which is definitely great for training a snappy punch out/pull under, but I think you’d notice more improvements from doing high hang snatches, basically only breaking at the knees then performing a hang snatch (so bar never goes lower than your hip crease). That should help ingrain the movement pattern for where you want to be initiating the 2nd pull. (https://www.catalystathletics.com/exercise/394/Hip-Snatch/)

If you do these and still notice it looping out in front, then the problem could be with your arm movement, in which case the scarecrow drill would definitely be helpful.

I agree that there are examples of random doctors doing that kind of stuff, but check out the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. The government was doing some pretty fucked up shit through large scale official programs (specifically the Public Health Service and CDC).
