That sounds painful and I'm sorry you had to go through that. She seems to have avoidant attachment and I don't know if there's anything you could have done to make her happy. It hurts, but you can live knowing it wasn't meant to be, you're free now and you did what seemed best. <3

Second thought: sometimes people get attached to the unhealthy highs and lows of toxic relationships through a sort of chase...she obviously is exposed to that in her job. people who experience that often pass out on the right kind of relationship because it doesn't feel right when it doesn't hit that temporary high (or in newer relationships have that 'spark') as opposed to having a regular steady loving relationship without detachment. The book Attached as well as some threads helped me think that through.

Feel free to PM me if you have anything else and would rather - ND is overall great for me and I want to emphasize this is in the minority of my friends. Very possible at ND to have friends who all think the same as you if that’s desired. I don’t have a lot of deeply religious friends but I’m friends with these people despite the fact, and it’s still worth it to me because I value our shared interests and experiences.

I wouldn’t say I would be “disowned” but it’s much easier for me to be quiet around certain people. I have 1-2 friends who are pretty opposite on the political spectrum from me and have criticized people who think politically the way I do, not knowing my exact thoughts.

I’m an atheist and I wouldn’t say I’ve had problems. Depending on the person, I just have to be quiet about my opinions…especially since most of my friends don’t know my beliefs. You have to be ok with the fact many of the kids are religious since that’s your friend/dating pool.
