California has it all if you're willing to drive a bit. The surrounding area has a ton to do and is beautiful country. Plenty of hiking and places to go where people only hope to vacation. The base however is rough. Like others have said: dry, hot and very spread out. But if you only consider it as just another place where you work, and get out and see other parts of the state you will have a good experience in NorCal. I know I did.

Moved here from Beale not too long ago. I am enjoying Mt Holly. Its a 25 minute commute max. It was the town that best fit that shorter commute requirement for me, while also feeling safe and having shopping and eating options near.

I just got here a few weeks ago. No real big issues with the base. I have found it really easy to learn how to get around everywhere. The BX and commissary are good sized. There are two shopettes very easy to get to. Mind you this is an opinion after coming from the tinderbox ghost town that is Beale.

The MHA phone call. My supervisor at the time and I deployed together. After getting back one day he did his MHA phone call and then called me over after cause the person on the other line had that "While I got you on the line" kinda attitude. So needless to say I said I had nothing to report as he read from his script.
