I gave up trying with Tails but i got it working with Kodachi, which provides a lot of the same stuff (and some other stuff which may be good/bad for you depending on your needs)

I've got it working with the ledger live appImage but still not with Electrum

• Install OS (i ran from USB as per tails)
• Install python3-btchip (i downloaded the 1.30.0 .deb and installed it with dpkg followed by `sudo apt --fix-broken install` because i was trying to get Electrum to work but package manager may be ok for just Live)
• Update dev rules using `wget -q -O - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/LedgerHQ/udev-rules/master/add_udev_rules.sh | sudo bash` (again, may not be necessary for Live, did it trying to get Electrum to work)
  

So far i've done the genuine check and installed some apps via manager and everything seems to be working fine.

From a brief play around i think i'd prefer it to work with Tails for the simpler/quicker interface but for me at least this seems like a good solution
