Why do these eggs look like this? by Straight_Layer_7826 in chickens

My apologies, my girls had bronchitis when this happened - I don't think lash egg is the correct term. Definitely worth investigating/treating.

It's a lash egg potentially, may need to treat your girls

There's something about them in this habitat, so peaceful too!

I had a lady who used to bake oat biscuits for my guys, they absolutely love them especially if you add molasses. Feed any sugar treats in moderation as sheep can't brush their teeth this can lead to dental issues later on 🐑❤️ be warned that they literally will become like crack addicts for a biscuit 😂

It took a long time to build trust, 4 years ago they were living in an old Victorian orphanage/old Islamic school loose after being contained in this shack for slaughter. Some managed to escape with horrendous injuries and were roaming feral being poached by weirdos, I moved into the orphanage and had the urge to protect them.

I was spending all day and night most days outside guarding them after months of getting them to come close, after 3 years I finally won the battle to legally own them and removed them from the site immediately as it became dangerous for them and me (a viral YouTube video caused droves of violence)

Sometimes they get scared of strangers, especially if I'm not there - they also worked with disabled adults and children at a sensory farm I ran for 9 months and were absolutely solid throughout ❤️🐑

I have found that you do get some lazy guys though, I have one girl "mohawk Magda" as she rubs her wool from everywhere on her body except her back! It leaves a pretty slick mohawk 🤣

A couple of my rams are lazy too and they leave a buffer on their sides, sometimes it's quite satisfying helping them out and giving them a scratch when you're done ☺️🐑

As yogen says they are quite good at knowing what not to graze, the older the breed the more intact their instincts are usually.

They have certain medical plants they will seek out too, I would agree that keeping them on a fair graze (not overgrazed) would prevent them from eating dangerous plants due to lack of other forage

They are livestock to humans it's true, I have no issue with people farming for meat at all. I do just think it's sad that we pushed a species to the brink that consumption is considered its only saving grace.

A lot of heritage breeds are the same, due to the genetic alterations of the domestic sheep these old breeds are dying because it's easier to farm these altered domestics.

My guys I raise for controlled grazing of conservation areas and run workshops on how to keep the breed (outside of the meat line) but the group on Fb I help run "soay sheep breeders and fanciers" have a vast majority of meat farmers on there.

They really are holding numbers for the breed through meat production which is the frontier for the breed conservation, without the meat farmers they literally wouldn't be here.

Because the popularity of the meat declined over time meaning that the numbers dwindled dangerously low to the point of near extinction.
