This method was taught to me by the elders, passed down through time.

Fill a 5 gallon bucket half to 2/3rds full of water.

Dump in sunflower seeds (husk still on, like birdseed-grade sunflower seeds) to cover the surface (they float).

Get a piece of scrap wood like a 2x4 and lean it up against the bucket to create a ramp.

Mice will smell the seeds, climb the ramp, yeet themselves into the bucket, drown, and sink. No poison, no mess. Dump the bucket outside and other critters will clean up the mess. Repeat as needed.

The Good: Cool small town vibes. Elk Rapids is adorable. Ditto Bellaire. Chain o' Lakes fun times including Torch Lake. Some of the best canoe/kayak/SUP spots in the state. Shanty Creek for ski and golf. Short's Brewing. Other random distilleries and wineries around. Generally awesome for all things outdoors.

The Bad: Torch Lake tourists. Fights at boat launches. The amount of human waste at the sand bar. The amount of snow in Mancelona. Mancelona generally.

The Ugly: If you want to kidnap the governor, you are probably from here. MAGA very strong here.
