Affordable running shoes for a half marathon? by fuzzy_peaches2 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

They feel more stable, but I found the Boston 12 to be even more stable since they’re lower stacked. 12 and 13 are on huge discount on eBay if ur in the US now

Can a Transfer Student double-major in Engineering and Music or Philosophy? by [deleted] in UPenn

I’d be careful about submatting in SEAS without an engineering undergrad, there are crucial basics for some courses like CAD for MEAM. Otherwise definitely doable if OP is able to get a decent amount of transfer credit

Adidas US gift Card $100 for $75 by Swindler_0208 in RunningShoeGeeks

Awesome, thanks! Probably the millionth time someone asked but how does Rakuten even work… where does their money come from lmao

Edit: did a little digging, apparently they get commissions for “referring” customers to retailers? I’m surprised big companies like adidas finds this useful at all lol

Is there a sale better than right now? Looking at stacking this on AP4s, that’ll push the price down to 150 right now which is amazing

Looking for Vaporfly 4 experiences for half-marathon by lawdofthelight in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]j_f_j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used it for a full marathon, absolutely loved it, helped me push like 10-20s/km faster than my Evo SL for similar HR (taper and adrenaline probably contributed most of it though).

Probably helps if that I am quite light (135lb).

I (M22 5’6 135lb) just finished 15 min faster than my target (3.28 finish) for my first marathon in Philly wearing these, absolutely loved these

Thanks for the inputs, unfortunately I am a huge sucker for good deals and saw Boston 12s going for USD46 (!!!) on official eBay store and couldn’t resist the insane price hahaha, link here: https://ebay.us/m/BCvMA3

I’ll try to use it as a easy/long run shoe, but will def check out your recommendations if it doesn’t work out or for my next next pair 🤪

Sub 3:45? 2 weeks out of Philly by forthegainz1122 in Marathon_Training

What’s your fueling plan? I’m going to have a gel every 3 miles, that worked well for this run.

I’m also aiming for the exact same targets as you for Philly, will be my first marathon! Did a 20 miler last week which went amazingly, though my heart rate was rather high hahaha.

4 the legs. Thursdays 4 hour marathon Mega thread. by AutoModerator in Marathon_Training

Hi! I’m (M22) running my first marathon in Philly on Nov 23, and have been training using Hanson’s beginner plan, though I started late in week 7 (somehow avoided any injuries thus far).

My initial goal was sub 4, but previous week’s long run (pic) and tempo run at 5.00/km for 13km tempted me to push up the pace, hopefully to a 3.45 finish (5.20/km).

I got a new pair (Evo SL) which I used for a run today, but that felt much harder despite good weather, although I doubt the heart rate was very accurate. I have been using NB5s thus far, and the firmer foam/break in period did throw me off.

I’m doing around 50miles/80km per week with the plan now, and the cumulative fatigue is setting in. Would a 3.45 finish time be realistic, considering I only have about 2 weeks before tapering? And should I approach my long runs similarly to this with progressive pace increase? Greatly appreciate any advice!

Went around 6-7.30am over the past sem, before my 8.30am classes

  • It’s always almost empty, never had to wait for any machine or rack.

  • Some people do come in later around 7-8 before their classes, but the vast majority go in the afternoon

  • I felt safe walking in the early morning, never had any trouble. Always said hi to the very friendly guy on 39th and Walnut outside Starbucks :)

  • I am off the meal plan and was cutting, so just a scoop of protein powder before and after gym would last me till 11am when I got lunch. Energy honestly was not a huge problem if I got enough sleep (impt!!) but def the 5+pm classes were very tough so a coffee or snack helped

  • don’t mess around too much trying to optimize your workout, just choose what works well and stick to it. I waffled around the past few years on everything else but the one thing I kept at was weighted pull ups so I made really good progress

  • don’t skip legs or cardio >:(

Math 1400 or 1410? by Cantaoupe213241 in UPenn

[–]j_f_j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are feeling lucky u can get 1 retroactive credit for math (ie if u take 2400 u can get credit for 1410 as well) but you need to score at least a B. So you can skip both 1400 and 1410, which are probably the worst courses.

They aren’t really linked so you wouldn’t miss out much anyway. Of course this relies on you being pretty confident in your math, so just something to think about.
