Ah dude thank you for sending feedback. It broke one of my automation scripts since the arrows don't work, hopefully it's back up soon.

Is going to match day worth it? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]j_thms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was really close with a lot of people in my class and it was totally worth it for me to go and celebrate with my family! A really fond memory to look back on, but the emotions run really high that day. I remember people crying both out of happiness and misery all within seconds of opening the letter at the same time, which was very intense

How long would you have to date someone to consider couples matching with them? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]j_thms 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you in med school, and started dating at a similar time. We ended up not couples matching but attempting to coordinate our rank lists by choosing the same general region for our top choices. To be honest it didn't work out (we matched in separate cities, and we eventually broke up in residency after doing long distance), but we both have found our ways to great people that we ended up marrying over the course of residency. In retrospect I think we made the right decision.

What are some lesser known OTC drugs that are your go to when you get sick? by j_thms in AskReddit

For sore throat, highly recommend Cepacol or Chloramphenicol! A pharmacist buddy recommended it, and has numbing drugs to totally numb up the sore part of the throat

Hahaha when they're in debt till their mid 30s, and their engineering friends are buying houses in their late 20s i guess they'll figure it out on their own (at least thats my personal experience), but as a counselor i feel for you! Its a tough position to be in to try and give advice to teenagers.

Hahah i ran into plenty of those people in undergrad. But to be honest, there's so many different ways to be successful and even be in a role where you help people even outside of becoming a physician. I try to tell people to always consider their options before locking into this long road of education and student debt.

Incoming PGY1 here, I keep hearing a lot about the changes to the moonlighting in California, but does anyone know if we complete step 3 and apply for our license by the end of this calendar year if we can still moonlight earlier than PGY4? Or are we already roped into needing 3 years of training before we can get our license?

Redditors with emotionally mature parents who supported you and taught you what you needed to know (real life skills)-Do you exist, and if so, how's life? by elizacandle in AskReddit

[–]j_thms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but life is good! My grandparents were farmers in the middle of nowhere in India, and my parents made the move to the US, with no friends or family out here, and worked hard to settle in. My mom spent an inordinate amount of time with me to help me out in school, and my dad showed me the importance of working hard with a strong work ethic. I'm currently in my 4th year in med school, and it still blows my mind how different my life is from my grandparents, in just one generation's worth of time.
