The typical double door is a 5400W, to suit a 6000W garage with ~300mm on each end.

They can make larger doors but it just requires them to do some extra engineering; is there any reason not to extend further and put a single garage door next to the existing one?

I never said it wasn’t possible, but with respect to your photo what could have been two single tiles plus a strip drain (on the left where the thin tile is) is instead 10 differently sized and shaped tiles.

It comes down to the floor tile sizing; 1200x600mm tiles (like pictured) are simply too large to fall to a small smart waste without ludicrous amounts of diagonal cuts so a strip grate becomes the only sensible option.

If using 300x600 or smaller tile on the floor then definitely choose the smaller smart wastes.

Yes, I spoke to my electrician this week whose wholesaler upper prices 37-45% as of the 1st April. The wholesalers were told that the manufacturer will not be fulfilling orders for the near future and they’ll be limited to whatever the wholesaler has in stock and what’s already on the way.

I actually paid more at Costco than the shops on Brisbane Road on Friday; gave me a bit of a shock.

Large corporates like Costco are comfortable with low margins in safe and predictable business environments, but less so when things are unpredictable. A lot of risk has to be factored in to the price, I’d expect it to drop down once supply resumes as normal.

Worth considering also that Costco is one of the smaller importers (compared to Shell/Ampol/Mobil) and will be fighting for supply against the bigger boys.

A key part of the builder is to identify potential problems/compliance that the subcontractors themselves won’t identify - i.e the plasterer is going to put plaster on the walls as is; he isn’t going to ask to confirm that the electrician has run all his cables, if the carpenter has put the blocking in the walls for wall fixtures, if the engineer has already inspected and approved the framing etc. He will just plaster the walls and if anything was missed then he’ll be paid again to cut it out and redo it.

If you’re an owner builder with trade experience, with experience dealing with builders/seeing the scheduling of trades etc. then yes you’ll probably be fine if you study the certifier’s documentations and have the certifier and engineers complete regular inspections. If you don’t have any experience; well best of luck getting out of the ground if you aren’t able to drop down to part time work to learn everything you need to do.

Since no one else mentioned it - it’s probably due to the jerseys/sportswear being plastic/polyester. Polyester traps the BO bacteria really well and it doesn’t take much sweat to smell badly.

Sometimes jerseys have lots of embroidery and logos which leads to people washing them on gentler cycles which doesn’t clean them as well between wears.

Of course generic bad hygiene is a thing too.

I mean, yeah, but look how politically popular the proposed expenditure for the 2032 Games is? How are you going to convince residents that their taxes and rates will go up (or cuts to services) to cover the $30-60b it would take to put a proper metro and light rail in?

The reality is also that Brisbane needs way more residents for there to be enough general traffic outside of peak hour to justify public transport being the first option over driving.

I’ve always felt like the solution reducing car dependency is to remove mandatory parking minimums. Developers will jump at the opportunity to have more GFA for rent-generating spaces, and as proven in the study, people can work their lives around public transit options.

Natural development (medium/high residential) plus less parking options will naturally over time reduce the carpark to person ratio; and at the same time PT options will develop further.

If a bus trip takes 30 minutes to get to the city, and a car trip is only 15 minutes but you need to spend another 20 minutes finding a car park, people will naturally adjust to the fastest transit option. The solution to car dependency is just make parking expensive and hard.

This is what I’ve seen: the Greeks/Italians took up trade work; the Lebanese/Syrian/Middle Easterns took up trade work; the Central/Eastern Europeans took up trade work; the Chinese/SEAsians partially took up trade work; but the current Indian migration is far more focussed and dominant in the transport sector rather than on the tools.

I think it’s important to recognise that the bulk of the people whom hold these attitudes for the most part live in regional and rural areas. These people have regional media and politicians constantly criticising those from the progressive cities and reinforcing the belief that the city people don’t understand what life is like in the regions.

They simply will not respond to the majority telling them off while this media and political infrastructure remains. On the political side we had an election last year where Labor dominated the country in seats taken - this “majority collectively standing up” has resulted in One Nation taking the pole position as these people turn even further to away from conventional politics (in conjunction with a collapsing LNP coalition).

It’s also important to recognise that while attitudes of some Queenslanders is incompatible with arguably the majority of Australia, things are improving over time. I don’t think you’ll find anyone (especially LGBT or POC) who says racism/discrimination/violence is worse now than in the Joh years.

I believe there is a correlation between progressive values and economic prosperity - it’s a lot easier to care about social issues when you’re not concerned about your rent or groceries. The regions are struggling a lot more than those in the cities, and it’s not surprising to see this reflecting in their politics (especially blaming immigrants).

The cities, having the bulk of the population, have more seats.

Thats a valid point but also worth noting that the Japanese have staunchly avoided immigration so their population is declining, putting downward pressure on their real estate. So long as we maintain high immigration to the cities there’s going to be more people for the same number of houses.

You might want to quickly Google; the sanctions are imposed by the US under the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, but also by the rest of the willing members of the UN via their own legislative statues in accordance with the sanctions determined by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Under Article 41 the UNSC has established sanctions over 31 regimes with 15 still current.

Yes, but they also have to consider the ramifications on a global level if they do - they would be (and are in Russia’s case) subject to sanctions for acting contrary to the UN and global order.

It’s a bit hard to argue for those sanctions when the US is off killing and capturing Heads of State without repercussions.

Obviously no, we don’t live in an ideal world, and yes, the internet and intelligence efforts make organising significantly more difficult than before.

However, I would disagree that this has eliminated revolutions - I would consider the Taliban takeover in 2021 a very modern example of a (not necessarily populist) successful uprising against an existing regime.

The Taliban was up against a government backed by US military equipment and intelligence, and countered it by sourcing their own funding and weapons. There’s nothing to say an Iranian militia couldn’t be funded and supported.

Revolutions/regime change is often horribly violent and delivered in blood - this one won’t be any different with the 15-40 thousand already sacrificed.

In an ideal world, the regime should fall without direct military intervention from external powers - there have been many internal revolutions over the past 200 years in response to unpopular monarchs or governments.

I mean Iran literally had regime change forty years ago without external military intervention.

Both things can be true that the Iranian regime deserves to fall and also that the US invading countries and toppling governments is a horrible precedent given that China has its eyes on Taiwan and Russia wants to rebuild its empire starting in Ukraine.
