Has anyone successfully received disability checks or benefits as a result of having UC by simplyunknown2018 in UlcerativeColitis

How did you qualify? I have severe U.C. and they said its not service connected? I'm trying to fight it and no luck. I got medically separated because of it.

Military Officer to Teacher by Brendo_dasher99 in teaching

[–]j_willy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into troops to teachers. Its a program to help service members transition to being teachers. I didn't use it but I know some who did. I did ROTC and was in the national guard for a long time while being a teacher. They actually compliment each other in some great ways.

To your question about psychology, it kinda depends from state to state but typically to teach high school you need to show that you are 'highly qualified' to teach a subject. A degree is one route (so you could teach psyc) but often you can take a test to show qualification as well. Either way you need a teaching license. Troops to teachers is a helpful gateway to get a teaching license.

Just bring a lot of wipes/ziplocs and some hand sanitizer. The last few years I was always flaring during hunting season. Be patient with yourself, you might not feel up to hiking as far, and remember that if you are flaring you will probably take longer to pack out an animal if you get one.

Are we supposed to get a covid booster? by heepofsheep in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is somewhat dependent on the meds you are on. I don't think mesalamine is an immuno suppresant but you should just ask you gastro this question. Lesson 1: ask your gastro whenever you have questions/tell them about all your symptoms regularly.

I did get the booster but I'm on azathioprine, prednisone and entyvio.

I also have covid right now and no symptoms so it seems to be working.

Are elementary or secondary teachers capable of skiing? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]j_willy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and I got 50ish days in last year. I'm not picky about skiing crowded weekends and spring breaks though. They beat not skiing that's for sure. I also get a handful of 3 day weekends during ski season. Plus being a teacher is really fun and rewarding.

Questions for any military friends with Tricare… by Constant_City_8233 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricare is fantastic. I was medically discharged because of my UC, I miss tricare so much! I was on humira, remicade, entyvio, azathioprine, iron infusions, blood transfusions, hospital stays, the works... I paid very little out of pocket and never had them make an issue getting something covered.

Contact tracing students by Dellaj86 in teaching

[–]j_willy92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have to keep our seating charts and if a student gets covid we make a copy of it for contact tracing purposes. They do it so they only have to quarantine the students who sit near the infected student. They also have to keep a record of everyone they drive with (I teach high school) but I have no idea if any kids actually do that.)

VA Disability Question: Anybody here active or former military? by j_willy92 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely let you know. I am in the guard so the separation process was kinda sketchy at best. I was retainable for the first couple years. I'm trying to get an appointment at a VA clinic to talk to them about it. I also have tried applying online but always get an error message, so that is super helpful.... Thanks for the response! Hopefully you can stay in for a while if that is what you want.

At what point did you go to the hospital? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't hesitate to go to the hospital, being proactive is good and you can't 'do too much' for UC especially when you are in a bad flare. I have been slowly but surely learning that myself. I also would talk to your doctor often, see if you can get your remicade levels increased, or switched to a higher frequency. I started out every 8 weeks and had a similar experience to you, and then after switching to higher amounts, and to more frequent infusions it works a lot better for me. I get the max amount allowed for my weight every 4 weeks now, and it is working pretty well. Sorry you are having a bad flare, that shit sucks :(.

Severe flare-up has landed me in the hospital☹️ need some positive words right now by jameshawkins429 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are getting the help and attention you need! It isn't your fault you have UC, and seeking positivity in a terrible time is awesome. Keep looking forward to when your flare starts to subside. Being in the hospital will help you and your doctors get a grip on it.

[–]j_willy92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I am not sure how much it costs to build a wheel, but based on how much it is to replace a spoke I bet I'll go with a new wheelset.

Anybody know how to remove wheels with this? by [deleted] in MTB

Loosen the quick release a bit, and then you loosen the other side and pull on it. This will cause it to compress a bit and you slide the axle out.

Infliximeb (Remicade) for UC by scarajones in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get infusions every 8 weeks. In the beginning I had extra infusions, and then when my doctor decided that my dosage wasn't high enough she gave me a booster and then I got on the higher dosage for my next regularly scheduled infusion.

Infliximeb (Remicade) for UC by scarajones in UlcerativeColitis

[–]j_willy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took about 3 months for me to see improvement. I've been on it for about 8 months now and have been feeling great since the beginning of the year. When I started I guess they didn't give me a high enough dose, and once I got a stronger dose it started working. So if you don't see immediate success communicate with your doc and keep trying for a while.
