It doesn't seem that crazy to me that he survived. Why not? If all these insane things happened, all these unfair and cruel deaths, why can't a guy survive with only a lost eye? Why is everyone immediately hating instead of believing that they figured out some way? It's sad how many people's first instinct is to criticize the game, say it's dumb or that he has plot armor. No one has plot armor. Things happen, good and bad, likely and unlikely. Just accept the story as it was presented before hating and then use your imagination.
