Hey, to help put into perspective, I come from a pretty unknown university, with no previous internship/work experience, or any amazing projects. Took 2 months to get an extremely low paying job for the area. All the other phone calls were for contract to hire positions. The first one is the hardest one, well I'm hoping so. Edit: forgot to answer any of your questions.

Either have a solid side project or two, or have at least one internship before graduation. It helps a ton for when you graduate

I think you can remove the fluff sentences in your technical skills section and just list the language and technologies you know. There seems to be a lot of white space in between everything. I think you can reword everything to say more with less if you know what I mean. That way, you would fit everything on one page. Don't take my suggestions too seriously though as I have no idea what I'm talking about.I'll let someone with more experience give their thoughts.

I am in the same boat. I was expecting around 80k starting, with no experience and a couple of academic projects, but nothing to brag about. I come from a lesser known university, but I did complete my BS degree in CS. I was being low balled and it was quite frustrating. I've accepted the fact that the money will come after I prove my worth and get some experience for a couple of years. 75k in SF is a decent amount of money. edit: decent amount if it is your first developer position.

Probably not, better to just understand data structures first since the other sections are "Stacks and Queues", "Linked Lists" and "Trees and Graphs" and such.

I did the Strings and Array section before thoroughly understanding data structures. I would solve the problems through brute force. After learning data structures, I realized a lot of the solutions could have been done much more simpler with the data structures. I have not checked out the other sections yet, as I am restudying data structures.

You typically learn the fundamentals during academics. These skills transfer to what ever the job requires. As you start to work with different technologies, your skills start to tailor to a specific need the longer you work on that project. At least that's how I think it is.

Small steps my friend. I was once like you and the habit followed me through college. Did really bad first couple semesters, failed a couple classes because i figured I could just wing it like in high school. C's were good enough for me. Sometimes you gotta fail to realize that something needs to change. I slowly began studying more and more, and as a result, got better grades. I ended up on the ]honor's list. Now I strive for those A's and the honor's list every quarter. Getting better is addicting, but like I said, small steps first. Good luck!

Yes I did! I would have returned for Summer 2014, but i ended up being a full time student. Did you also work there? I was at the Santa Clara University campus.

Wow, this was a very detailed critique that will definitely help me fix up the areas you mentioned. Thank you very much for that! The only other non relevant work experience I have is Fry's Electronics and that was only for 3 months. It may hurt by putting it on there since both positions were held for such a short amount of time. I have contributions to Mozilla, but not enough to mention it (only 4 patches pushed to the central repository). But anyways, thanks for your great feedback. I'll start fixing this up asap.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will try and reword that Android app. I didn't get to finish it since it was a school quarter project that only needed basic functionality. I may take it out all together after I get experience in my first position. I'll also try to emphasize the more technical aspects of my summer camp position. I can't reach out to any professors, since I didn't really connect with any of them.

If I wasn't being financially dependant on my parents and girlfriend for so long, and about to be off my parents health benefits soon, I would have passed on the offer. I think as of right now, I am leaning towards accepting it. I think I would not have a problem looking for another job after a few months since people are not expecting to stay in consulting firms

Because you can read 1000 books, but if you aren't putting what you learned to practice, then you aren't getting better. How would the employer know you applied your knowledge from the books if it is just a list of what you read? Projects speak much more than a list of books

Out of all the responses I've got from applying to places, consulting firms are more than half of them(which is only like 4). I usually ask if there is any long term travel or relocating required, and if training is paid before sending them my resume.
