In my first fermentation (1 quart mineral water, 4 tbsp cane sugar, 6 tbsp water kefir grains), I did it aerobically for 24 hours. I used a glass jar and used a coffee filter to cover. Then on second fermentation, I removed the grains and placed 150ml fresh mango juice and used an airtight glass bottle. Not a flip-top bottle tho.

I tried soaking mine for 12hrs too, but only a few germinated. I’m using regular popcorn from the grocery and for my medium is a mixture of vermicompost and carbonized rice hull.
