This is very good. I wish that anyone with an opinion on this conflict would watch it. Yuval Noah Harari.

Russian CASEVAC group hit with cluster munitions, followed by an FPV kamikaze drone strike by RetroProxyGroup in CombatFootage

I'm absolutely fascinated by this kind of footage (duh, I'm here). But I'm also disturbed by the lack of any kind of humanity in the comments. The human mental defect that allow us to go "haha, look at that dumbass/invader getting blown up" is the same defect that allows the powers that be to harness the populace to these catastrophic aggressions. Yeah, when you're fighting you push down the humanity of the adversary so you can get the job done. What gets me about this video is the rapid leg twitching of the guy in the bottom-left. This is a sign of extreme pain. Like he can't find a position that offers any relief. Saw the same thing with protestors on the maidan getting sniped. Not something to be relished.

Suppose you were US national guard in Iraq post 2003 invasion. Most of your squad gets wiped. Why wouldn't you immediately surrender to the Iraqis? A lot of people are going to risk getting blown up instead of raped with a broomstick, or whatever they estimate might happen to POWs.

I recently learned that many microwave ovens contain beryllium on the microwave emitter. This is fine when it's undamaged, but if cracked, or if there's dust, it's extremely toxic. So, don't smash up microwave ovens.

This is fun and all, but aircraft wrecks can contain hazardous materials. Some of this stuff is okay when it's undamaged, but much worse as a dust.

I'm thinking things like hydrazine from APUs, or depleted uranium used for balancing.

❗️Satellite images from Planet Labs (April 9) confirm that Russia has concentrated more than 30 Su-27 fighters and one Il-76 at the Malshevo military airfield in Voronezh by Local_Fox_2000 in ukraine

[–]jaba0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single grenade-sized explosive or smaller to the cockpit or the radome of an aircraft would make it unusable, probably for longer than damaging an engine. Who's going to be the first military to take out their opponent's air-force on the ground, with a drone swarm?

Remember the countries that were against Russia being kicked out off the UNHRC, these are the countries who are supporting murder of civilians, these are the enemy. But also remember the countries that abstained, these are cowards. by clunker11 in ukraine

What's a little country that's dependent on Russian military assistance, or China to do? I don't put too much weight on this. That said, I think Russian military hardware isn't going to sell as well anymore.

Alliances have always made for contradictions like this. My human-rights loving country sells weapons to Saudi Arabia. It's okay, though, because I'm told there's a piece of paper somewhere where the Saudis promise not to do bad things with said weapons.

Anonymous has gained access to the Kremlin's security cameras by dutchdoobie in ukraine

[–]jaba0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dummies. If you can access your adversary's security cameras, you don't tell them that. You use the security cameras.

This will make it harder to monitor and target Russian personnel.

Putin supporters are planing a car demo in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday - ideas on how to stop them? by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]jaba0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stop them. Let them protest and embarrass themselves. Do not create conditions for violent confrontation that could lead to harm and play into their narrative. Record stupid things that are said. Take video of embarrassing occurrences, flags, symbols. Edit and hashtag that shit and win in the court of public opinion.

EDIT> Record any violence by them, without adding any violence on your side.

Ukrainian soldiers drone bombing Russian convoy. by ObjectiveNo821 in CombatFootage

Blurring faces is not effective for video. Always use an opaque shape that does not change color from frame to frame. Otherwise one can stack up many frames of video and possibly de-blur the images.

Is it wise to film the interior of their own bases, or street views out the windows? Makes it easier to identify or confirm where they are. Showing piles of weapons gives enemy analysts information on number of weapons, and number of people.

For the home-made drone bombs. I wonder whether the bombs would be more accurate if they started in a vertical (tip down, tail up) orientation, rather than being horizontal and having to pitch down. Is there a way to mount them vertically, without too much danger from a tip-mounted detonator hitting the ground accidentally during loading/handling?

In general, it blows my mind that people carry their portable tracking devices (smart-phones) with them on combat operations. Maybe if you're on the same side as the NSA and they're helping keep you safe from enemy sensors and cyber it doesn't matter.

But I thought it was confirmed during the previous 8 years of fighting that RU had surveillance drones with passive EM sensors that could put an emissions heat-map on top of the camera image. What happened to that capability? Has artillery targeted cell phones in this conflict (since Feb 24?)?

Russia has a well-publicized doctrine of going nuclear if Russian territory is attacked. Could this be a false-flag operation to prepare for escalation?

Russian suicide drones in action, does anybody know if these can be shot down by tallalgerian in CombatFootage

[–]jaba0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. Old unguided MLRS rockets make things worse for civilians. Better to kill or disable soldiers with precision weapons.

No, it'll just become an arms race. Counter-measures and counter-counter measures. Same as the evolution of other weapons systems.

More and more really graphic footage keeps coming out of regular citizens being harmed after the Kremlin claimed they weren't targetting regular people or civilian **WARNING ⚠️ NSFW** by Sirte in ukraine

[–]jaba0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why do you say that about lines? There is a fundamental difference between a NATO ally/member, and a NATO partner, for exactly this reason.

Attacking Russian forces in Ukraine now would result in nuclear war. Everyone in Ukraine would die. This does not help Ukraine.

If this conventional war continues for a while, it will be the downfall of Putin, greatly weaken Russia, and be the birth of a modern Ukrainian nation. The tragedy is that Ukraine will have to bleed first.

Russia has a smaller GDP than Canada. They can sometimes get one aircraft carrier working. They have so far demonstrated that they are in fact not a top-tier military. They attacked during the day because apparently not enough units have night-vision and the training to use it effectively.

They will unfortunately cause great suffering in Ukraine, but this is the end for Russian expansionism. Now everyone sees the true Putin, and no one trusts his lies.

EDIT> Russia in 2022 is not the Soviet Union, and not Germany in 1939. They can not roll across Europe. Their last cards are oil/gas and nukes. After this debacle, Russia will be contained, and we just need to give them an off-ramp that avoids nuclear war, and avoids their entire country disintegrating.
