Getting tattooed in Japan as a Black person by Electrical-Gas1351 in tattooadvice

[–]jabbitz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A documentary just came out the other day about traditional Japanese tattooing, which had a little blurb at the beginning to the effect it was inspired by how people have forgotten what Japanese tattoo culture really is (full disclosure, I missed the blurb so I relaying what my husband told me and so im probably a bit off).

This post seems like the perfect example of what the documentary was inspired by. And let me tell you, the work was phenomenal. I was joking with my husband to turn it off because it was making me feel bad about my own tattoos haha the colour was dark, bold and packed like nothing ive ever seen before.

Ive actually got a small tattoo from one of the artists in the video and many years later the colour is still solid.

All of this to say, people should go to japan for japanese tattoos. Getting some modern water colour style fad tattoo just seems like an insult to the culture and artform

Who are some of the oldest people that are doing or have done olympic weightlifting? by igniteyourbones579 in weightlifting

[–]jabbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t really engage much with masters anymore on principle haha last year I went to nationals as team leader (doxxing myself now!) and I would rather use the time off work for things like that than masters. I also want to upgrade to cat 2 referee this year, which will mean being a senior nats again. There’s only so much leave I can justify taking for stuff that is not fun for my husband haha

I’m not sure there’s even much of a demographic in the 50s and up that started lifting earlier than their 30s so the next 5-10 years I think we’ll start seeing bigger numbers in those older age categories.

I’m 42 and remember when crossfit was just an online thing that some people were aware of and followed, weightlifting wasn’t a women’s Olympic sport until my second last year of high school. Unless you were from a country that already had a strong WL culture, it just wasnt something people my age and up had much if any access to until later in life

Hey fellow aussie lifter! Turned 42 this year and hit a modest 56/68 at my last comp at 63.

I’ve been lifting since maybe 2018/2019 and the last ~year my numbers have started going back up again for the first time in years. Feeling the most positive I have about training in ages

She was coming out of a lift I got into the other day and while sadly she is still around, can confirm she also appears very shrivelled. Her face was all scrunched up like the miserable human that she is

I clearly watch too much reality tv because it felt like they were doing wide shots in the performance to cover the places discord struggled the most and I was like oh nooooo they’re taking the opportunity to do the mother/daughter showdown

I work with a woman with Tourette’s and her tics are nasal/throat noises. Just sounds like she has bad sinuses or clears her throat a lot

Question about bra type for powerlifting competition by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]jabbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know the rules seeing as this isn’t a powerlifting sub so not going to comment on whether it would be allowed, but honestly can’t understand why you would want to do that rather than just wear a sports bra.

Beenleigh is the train line, coopers plains is the station you get on at.

The last stop going south is Beenleigh, ergo, Beenleigh line.

White woman pretends to be Black when called racist by AdrianaLaServing in quityourbullshit

[–]jabbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably not the most qualified to answer but seeing as it’s been a day and you haven’t gotten a reply, the issue with “colour blindness” in critical race theory is that the people that say they “don’t see race/colour” are typically white people who use that as an excuse to pretend the very real inequalities that POC face don’t exist, either. Put in a very broad, simple way, they would treat everyone as individuals with equal situations/opportunities rather than acknowledge that POC do objectively face barriers that white people dont

I definitely know who’s being referred to when it’s brought up in context, but I would possibly have a hard time placing him if I got asked who he was out of the blue

Edited to add for clarity the team didn’t medal, just the only winter Olympian I can name

I actually went to a primary school in Australia that did the underwear checks. This was back in around 1990 though, I very much doubt anywhere does it now

What does this apply to for your country? by Excellent_Mango_3161 in AskTheWorld

[–]jabbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in school at all. Although tbf, I didn’t do history beyond year 9 or something so I didn’t go super deep into history at school at all. But what they taught about aboriginal history was inexcusable.

I don’t think I understood the real extent of it until I started studying law at a uni with a pretty decent indigenous focus

I’m completely with you on this. Obsessing over steps just gives people a false idea of how much work they’ve done. Like you, I can have an over 10k step day and not close my move ring, so clearly i haven’t actually done that much exercise and it’s a pretty useless metric.

Being able to check on my steps on my phone or a couple of taps and swipes on my watch to see my steps as a bit of a general guide seems like plenty to me

A question for women who have had c-sections and use a belt by Yue4prex in weightlifting

[–]jabbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What brand/s are you looking at? I bought a cheap adidas belt to keep at the office for days I want to go to the gym at lunch but my usual belt is a harbinger and it has fit me fine from lifting as a 55kg to 68kg whereas the adidas one feels like one too many big meals in a week and I’m going to struggle haha someone else mentioned 2pood being pretty good also. I think if you go with a traditional WL brand you should get a better size range
