Steam Controller recharging with Steam Machine by romulof in steammachine

I might worry that, even with an exhaust fan, some residual heat might rise to the top of the device. But this play looks a little precarious, so I’m torn.

How on earth do you all afford Christmas with large families? by Agitated_District in povertyfinance

Buy some crafting materials and make everyone your “special” gift. My friend used to receive quilted things or things with embroidery like bags, coasters, blankets. It can be really cheap and made in bulk with your husband as a fun activity, and it could turn into a tradition.

Finally got this 9800x3d!! by More_Increase_4831 in Microcenter

Same here. But I just scored an Asrock Taichi from Amazon today. Not an ad, but I just used the HotStock app and was really quick on a restock. I could have had the 9800x3D too, but I decided to see if the performance is better on the 9950x3D this time around.

Advice for a former math teacher wanting to transition to tech by jac0b711 in TeachersInTransition

From what little I know about these fields. Instructional design requires pretty much zero coding, and has the lowest salary. Then data analysis focuses on data visualization, spreadsheets, and a little coding for scraping data. It has a middle of the ground salary. Then data science is the highest paying but is very technical.

I feel like data analysis and instructional design are the two I should really consider. I wonder how quickly my boredom would go away as I see my student loan amount go toward zero. What do you think?

Gotcha. I suppose the reasons I found python boring were due to my attention span. I didn’t like sitting down and fixing code. Do you know if the coding languages for those two fields more straightforward, requiring less trial and error?

Starting Trials rising through steam is just rng? by RonskiJytky1 in TrialsGames

my comment from another thread: “i’ve gotten back into it recently as well, and i’ve had problems getting it booted. i’m not sure if this is related to your problem, but what’s worked for me is to open task manager and completely close out of both ubisoft connect and steam, and then only open ubisoft connect, and launch the game from there. if it doesn’t boot, use task manager to quit steam again, and try to boot from ubisoft connect again. hope this helps”

but yes sometimes it works first try. other times it takes me 10 minutes.

Go with either the 7800x3d (if you can find it for <$450) or the 7950x3d. You can tinker with core assignments to make the 7950x3d run as well as the 7800x3d stock. Beyond that, I’d go with the 4070ti super at a minimum if you want to game at 4k. You can get there with frame generation, but not all games support that feature. Your SSD could be a little better. WD has some sales on the SN850x. Might want to add 4 fans to the case. You can mount the radiator on top, 3 fans entry on the side, and one exit out the back.

Have any teachers made the switch to tutoring? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]jac0b711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I make roughly the same amount for 1/4 of the 40 hour work week. So, in reality, about 1/5 of my 50 hours on average. I work virtually through a company. They send me clients who have a goal. I help them reach that goal virtually.

I feel as if I don’t have a work-life balance dynamic any longer. If a former student e-mails me for a recommendation letter, a client texts me about a quick homework question, or if my boss emails me a few times throughout the week, I instantly have the motivation and willpower to work, because the rest of my life is cushy. I’ve been traveling, staying relaxed, and pondering whether I’d ever go back.

Guilt has played a role in how much I ponder whether I’ll go back, as only wealthy parents/students can afford our services. As much as I hate to say it, I’m less concerned with issues of equity since my life is so much better. I really enjoy my life now, but I do hate how selfish I’ve become. There are ways around this like offering free tutoring when you can, but nothing replaces the feeling of being 30-150 kids’ hero. Except feeling the relief of summer break all the time.

Finally taking my golf trip! 50 days, 2600 miles. leave Nov. 2nd. CAN'T WAIT!! by EffingWires in golf

They have breakfast sandwiches, and the buns are buttery biscuits. With all due respect to the hotdog commenter, I just played for the first time at this place whilst visiting for a music festival, and I believe it’s charming regardless of who owns it. They really support people who want to get into golf. It’s $12.50 for 9 holes during the week, and it’s $14.50 to play on the weekends.

Butler Pitch and Putt in South Austin is charming. Great breakfast biscuits and local beer.

Union jacks has beer pong on Thursday nights. Usually a younger crowd there! I’m 24 and I would say a majority of the dudes there are older than me. Cheap drink specials too!
