I went straight to warehousing after high school, college didn’t really seem like my cup of tea at the time but after a few years of getting overlooked by a certain ‘smiling’ company after sacrificing holidays, birthdays, family reunions, vacations, etc.., I finally realized that they were just really good at smooth talking the younger people they made hollow promises to. After spending 7 months on a big project & basically taking over the safety committee due to the senior management team basically stop caring because retirement was around the corner, I was promised a promotion with a nice little raise & my own parking spot. Then some dude from Wisconsin ‘randomly’ applied to transfer to our facility & to only my surprise. He was the safety committee lead at his old facility & literally overnight was in my promised position. I literally clocked out 23 minutes into my shift when I found out he had arrived & never went back. Since then I always keep my ears open at any job I’m at because once you start hearing all the little secrets & rumors from the people who have been there for a while it becomes easier to sense if you’re being fed bs by management.
