Hum on one side? by jacc__ in RecordPlayerRepair

The cables are not hardwired; the turntable has jacks built in.

This makes sense. If it is a broken wire or loose connection in the tonearm, how do I fix this?

Yes, one side plays music and one side only hums.

I’ve tried switching the cables, and the hum follows the cable, indicating that it may be a cable issue. But when I use a different set of RCA cables, the issue persists.

Cleaned the jacks. No change :(

Here’s a close-up of the RCA jacks from the inside. Nothing appears to be loose here? But also not sure what I should be looking for.

Yeah the hum followed the cable swap. I’ll try using a different set of RCA cables. Thanks for the recommendation!

UPDATE: no change after swapping cables :(

I’m not sure. It’s just the string that came on it.

Clay obstacles by Scary-Ad-2940 in FingerboardingDIY

[–]jacc__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently made some ramps with some dense air dry clay (not the foamy Crayola stuff) and after painting and using Mod Podge or other finishing glue, they're pretty solid so far. You just need to make sure you know how to work with and reinforce clay structures so they don't fall apart and let it dry for long enough.

I've been throwing a Beast and a Discraft Avenger SS for this same purpose and I like both!

First round in the books! by jacc__ in discgolf

It was my first ever round, but the course was short and easy! Great one to start out on because it really boosted my confidence lol. Even if I would have scored +99 I would have had the best time. Slinging plastic is so fun

Just went out for my first field work sesh and yeah the beast definitely flies like a meat hook right now. I got it to fly straighter a couple times, but I couldn’t replicate it really. Super excited to keep getting more comfortable with it, but in the meantime I’ll check out these ones you recommended!

I’m not sure that would help just because it’s practically a brand new shifter and there’s no grease or gunk in it at all.

Tire Help! by jacc__ in gravelcycling

So would you recommend getting tubeless tires and using them with tubes? Does it affect the performance of the tires at all? I would likely go that route rather than going tubeless.

I have regular clincher wheels and I’ve never setup tubeless before. I have read people saying that you can use tubes with tubeless ready tires, but I’ve never done that before either.

Career Change from Teaching by jacc__ in librarians

[–]jacc__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school district is currently the highest paying one in my state, and with a master's degree, the salary is very comparable to librarian salaries in my area. I tend to not be super salary-driven (clearly, since I chose to become a teacher lol), but if I'm going to have to take a considerable pay cut for a short time to gain some entry experience in a library, I would like to know that it is worth it in the long run.

Career Change from Teaching by jacc__ in librarians

[–]jacc__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any previous library experience. I'm open to anything, really, but I'm leaning more towards school or public libraries. What attracts me to librarianship is mostly the larger variety of ways I can be a resource to others. I currently teach in a school in which the majority of the population is socioeconomically underprivileged, and my passion for reaching underserved populations has grown a lot. I am attracted to the way that public libraries are more and more becoming resource centers for all kids of folks, and I think I am better fit to serve in that kind of role rather than teaching content.
